I am not doubting you, but did you test the gas for water? Or could it be that they are selling 87 octane marked as 93?

it happened to me i filled up my tank at exxon, i dont have a wide band. but you will notice when the car runs, dont want to pull hard you will notice that somethings wrong i thought i ruin my motor. i went to my buddy and told him what happened he told me maybe the gas tahat i filled up i told him i allways used that station to fill up, so we drain the tank and get some gas. the car runs great again. i never use that gasoline station again. maybe youre right kurt that they are selling 87 and marked as 93.

This is an interesting thread. I got some gas recently at the Shell in Sterling on the Algonkian Pkwy. I clearly remembered pumping 93, but when I did a datalog right out of the station on a 3rd gear pull. I noticed that timing was being pulled, and I was gettting .91 volts. Those same settings yielded .93 volts just a few days before, and I did not have timing pull. I've added fuel on the AFC, and gotten more gas from another station. I won't ever go back to that Shell. Just seems a bit shady.

It is sad to think that gas stations would stoop to such a thing as selling a cheaper grade gas but mark it as 93 octane. Is there anyway to test the gas? Yes I only drive a Lancer, but I can't afford to but crappy gas in it even if I am only using 87 octane.
