evo8 vs. evo9
This is not technically true. The difference in the 8 and 9 engine are the turbo and MIVEC. Not until you tune the 9 is it really faster than the 8. Put cams in an 8 and you basically have a 9 engine.
Once bigger turbo's are added to both engines, the differences are slim to none.

276 hp in the evoVIII
286 hp in the evoIX
but this is a better perspective.
"The Evolution VIII first offered in 2003 would produce dynamometer readings of approximately 225 WHP and 225 ft·lbf. WTQ with a flywheel power rating of 271/273 respectively. The Evolution IX typically pulls 255 WHP and 250 WTQ on a dynamometer, a difference of 30 horsepower."

Guys, you don't know what you're talking about. I got a Kia and did nothing but a turbo back exhaust, a tune and a headlight fluid change and it runs sub 9's.
And yes, stock to stock, the nine is faster and handles better. --- stock to stock that is. How often does stock to stock happen in the Evo community?

Holy crap. How many times has this been asked. The IX has mivec on the intake cam and more knock tolerance due to revised cooling passages in the head. The IX's turbo compressor size is larger and slower spooling than the 8 turbos. The gear ratios in the transmissions are different. The ecus are also different. The exhausts are different. IXs are faster than 8s. They respond better to mods and mod for mod will always be faster until the head on both cars are reworked. Turbo upgrade or not, the IX will be quicker until the head is worked on both cars. Then the difference will probably be minimal.
It gets a little more involving when comparing 5 spds for obvious reasons.

THANK YOU for not making me feel like the ONLY ONE! I totally agree and I will be keeping my warranty for a while as well. Although, some do say the warranty isn't really worth keeping. Either way, I think I'll keep it stock for a while.
I like going to the dealer and saying fix it.
