Buschur vs RMR vs Altered Atmosphere

i have had a custom K&N intake filter or watever u want to call it from altered atmosphere... mine was like the 1st or 2nd car done and when another one of the mechanics there was looking at it... he actually told me it doesnt look like good work... my car is at AAM right now getting a clutch in and a few other things... im going to dyno tune it when i get it back on wed ( hopefully tues) but most likely wed... and i was wondering if by ne chance i could throw in a RMR and Buschur intake and compare it to mine on the dyno.... keeping the same a/f settings etc... anyone trying to donate some of their time and intake for a few minutes? Chris in HB i know you really like RMR's products and their intake is one of them... so care to see its comparison on the dyno with others? if chris is willing to i would just need someones buschur intake... Dan?? (vivid racing)

I do like their stuff, however I don't think the intake alone makes that much power. If I remember correctly, it's only like 6 hp or so, net. Keep in mind that I did most of my mods in groups (ie downpipe/intake, intercooler pipe/exhaust, etc.), so the gains for a specific part I am unsure of. Also, I don't know how much free time I'll have in the near future since I just got here and I am starting work soon.

A suggestion would be to call RMR and have them ship you a used one or demo one that you could ship back. If you talk to Eric and let him know I am the one that told you to call, they might do it. The number is (714) 847-2158.

Before someone complains that they'll send a ringer, I am certain they won't. A lot of times, they have extra stuff around because someone returned it (didn't like the sound or the wife got mad) for some reason. Good luck!

Chris

One of the guys at the Altered dyno day back in May had a cone filter (K&N, maybe?) with no other mods, and I believe we had three stock Evos who had a higher peak HP number than he did. Even giving some allowance for car-to-car variance, it looked like the intake did very little with respect to peak power. It may have other benefits perhaps at lower RPMs, I don't know. But I seem to remember at least one respected tuner who stated that he wouldn't even touch the intake on the Evo until just about everything else was upgraded.

Also, I've seen some reports that replacing the stock panel filter with an aftermarket filter (same airbox) actually led to the engine running a bit leaner -- I was all ready to install a replacement panel filter until I read that.

Anyway, that's just what I've read -- good luck with finding out which intakes really are worth the money.
