MBCs are not caveman by any means... what works, works. This is why some of the absolute fastest Evos in the country still use them. We still use the wheel dont we ? Same concept.

Both of those cars are lightly modded. When you are talking about not having even a complete exhaust, no internal upgrades to include cams or head studs even, a few bits of IC piping and an intake filter..... that is pretty damn lightly modded.

To caveat... you ran an 11.9 with a drop in filter, turbo back exhaust only on pump and a tune @ 22 psi ? You do realize that an 11.9 equates to something like 360whp or so. How much weight reduction ? I'd post your results (After Ripley's of course) in the drag racing thread as I dont believe i have ever seen anyone that fast with just those mods. I ran an 11.8 in my last evo w/o cams, at 116mph, but i was also running about 26 psi and a 50/50 mix of 93/114 leaded. I was full weight though which tells me you have to have quite a bit of weight reduction

The car weight 3375 with me, I did remove the spare tire. There are a few IX's that went 11's with just intake, tbe & mbc. Most-wanted was one of the fastest as he ran 11.7 with the same mods that I have.

As far as MBC I also have one on my fully built 2g dsm.

Which one do you prefer mbc or ebc? If the car have an ebc, would you use it? or would you remove it and replace it with mbc?

No, we just have too many restrictions on hunting by big brother. That of course explains why there are so many of those things up there in VA. I used to see about 60-100 on any given night while on patrol. Hitting a deer at 90+ is no fun either.

I here ya. I grew up in PA, smacked 3 deer and 1 black bear with my '88 mazda 626 and somehow that car still kept running. I was dating my wife at the time when I hit the last deer( 4 pt) and I had to cut its throat open as I broke its back and didn't have a pistol in the car. For some odd reason shes still with me after that .

Me personally... i have an EBC, I know how to tune them and I personally like them as I understand the advantages. However, most people do not have the money to spend on a good EBC much less know what they are doing with them. If you had an EBC on your car, I wouldnt take it off, Id tune it to max its performance and run the car. If you didnt have a boost controller, as i always do, I let the customer know the advantages of them both and the disadvantages so they can make an informed decision and we do what the customer asks.

Then why are those evo Xs using mbc? when the car came with ebc, actually all evos did, well not really ebc but better it's called ecu. It can be setup to boost differently for every gear, it adjust to temperature changed, it a lot safer as it can lower the boost based on conditions (knock, load, temp), it does not taper unless the tuner set it too and the best thing....it's free if you buy the car of course. But why am I telling you all the things that you (should) already know.....

Wow. Then I wonder why the hell they invented the grimspeed 3 port also. Thanks for the info. Now I can tell all our customers we just found out that the car comes with a free ecu controlled stock boost solenoid and that we accidently sold them caveman technology.......I'm going to go smack my face off a wall now for being so stupid!

I can give credit where credit is do though if those in fact are your 1/4 mile times. Nice times...

Invented? 3 port bcs has been there for a while. They might have redesign it, so guys like me that rather use ecu to control boost will have another option. I prefer the gm 3-port myself, but the cheapest options are boost pills.

As far as mbc, that's all up to the owners, they are the ones that make the call on all the mods on their car. I still have one on my dsm that I bought 2 weeks ago, as I need one that can hold 30 psi.

Thanks for supporting VA, there are only a few tuners that travel to VA. Nice result on the Xs....It'll be nice to know what they can do at the track .
