Va Beach Evo IX build...............

Stealing a couple older posts of mine from the newbie section and updating here; figure it's where this belongs...............

The first week I got it:

'06 Evo IX, purchased in '07.....carfax shows one owner; only has 34k miles.
Has a full exhaust, some hard piping, ****ty BOV, manual boost controller and two; count 'em, TWO boost guages. An analog one on the pillar and a digital one on the column. Why? I have absolutely no idea. Sounds like it has a fuel pump as well......gonna have to pull it out to see what it is.

That's what she looked like the day of the purchase on Saturday; couldn't pick it up til Monday.

After picking ug her up I went straight to where my buddy works......

Took the fugly wing off and it was worse than I thought:

After a heat gun, buffer and electrical tape:

I also pulled the wiper off; waiting on pulling the motor til I can get a decent boot to cover it.

Sittin' in the driveway........

Second week...........

Driving home today somethin' came undone...............major boost leak. Had to limp home. Time to actually check everything out, been putting off really going over the car 'cause I've been having too much damn fun driving it!!!

boost leak = running wayyyyy too rich

I knew the intercooler was ****ed up prior to the purchase; but it was holding boost and doing it's job, so what the **** did I care? BUT.......time to get the bumper off and see if we couldn't fix the mounting brackets and angle it was at.

And here was the culprit to the leak; worm clamps and not enough hose due to the intercooler being shoved up on bent brackets.......switched the worm clamps out with some real ones from up top. Getting some more on order........

All three mounting brackets were bent......

Some vice grips and some pushing and shoving gave a much better fit.

After she got put back together she ran great. Got bored and investigated the ****ty BOV; GFP......ugh. **** is all corroded and doesn't stay at the adjustment you put it at. Currently searching for a stocker.............pulled the fuel pump and was pleased to see that it's a Walboro 255Hp...........85 bucks I aint gotta spend now.

Last month............

Had to fly out to Seattle/Whidbey Island on business and let my buddy borrow the Evo for the week.
After berrating(sp?) me for not changing my oil in a while, he changed it and decided to do some investigating.
He took out the digital (with analog face) Defi boost guage (also had an AEM digital installed as well?) and put in my AEM UEGO wideband to see where I was at.

Haven't hit the dyno yet; but I've had plenty of runs with cars that I felt I just shouldn't have done as well against if I only had done to it what was visible; meaning TBE, hard piping, boost controller and such.....and the stock tune.
Some runs just didn't make sense and I've had the feeling for a while that she was stronger than even I expected.
Remember me mentioning smacking down two different new body style vettes with ease?

I was even thinking that I didn't have the stock cams; and I was 'half' right.............

HKS 272 exhaust cam; told me the intake cam 'looks' stock.
With the 272 and how she runs likes she's stock; and with what the wideband is reading, I'm assuming the ECU has been reflashed. I'm gonna go with the assumption that a 'mild' tune was done cause she runs like she's completely stock.
Just thought I'd share as it was more than a pleasent surprise to find more has been to it than I thought; but with driving it daily for the past few months......my suspicions were confirmed.

Should get some dyno time by the middle of next month to get some numbers down on paper.

So the end result as of right now is that I think I did pretty damn good when I purchased this car.

Full TBE, intake, boost controller, some hard piping, 255 Walboro HF, 272 HKS exhaust cam, ****ty tune.............I'm assuming the intake cam wasn't replaced due to the stupid *** price cause of the Mivec.

Taking the Kia I've got sitting in my garage to Carmax this week. Once that's done I'll be getting the rest of the hard piping, EvoScan/cable, flashing software and stock BOV. Then it will be dyno time.

I'm assuming I should be able to get 350 to the wheels no problem on a good tune; so we'll see if I'm right sometime next month..............

Anyone got a stock IX BOV for sale??????

Trust me..............I'm 35; dealt with places like that before. Already knew what I was getting into, and I paid cash.......didn't pay close to what he was asking.

Only thing I was concerned with was the damage to the IC; but it held boost so I wasn't really worried, as it will eventually get upgraded anyway. And now that the fit is proper I'm not worried at all. Black on black 5spd with low miles and stupid clean.............very happy with the purchase.

Now if someone will just trade me straight up for some VIII rims and I can find a stock IX BOV........I'll be good for a while.........
