Re tune

I've been needing to get a tune on my 03 VIII for a while, but that's been on hold since my car collected 3 deer last winter and the costs to put my sheet metal back in order. Spec-Ops wants $350 to do the tune, plus I am told I need a loggable wideband AFR gauge; which I am totally unfamiliar with as far as how that is employed.

That looks like about $180 on top of the tune, and am wondering on a 144k mile driver if I'm going to get worthwhile results for the costs.

I have one of Al's mail in's that has always seemed unremarkable. I have since added a 3"cat back and high flow cat. The original owner set a pre load on the WG actuator so it runs about 21 psi that builds quick. It has a snappy low-mid range, but the upper throttle range seems flat.

I wish I had something to compare my VIII to, I haven't a clue if its doing good or bad.

I would suggest bringing the car to the shop so we can do a once over on the car and make sure it is boost leak free, and in good general order. Paying for a tune on a car in ill repair is really like throwing your money down the drain... If you have not had your 120,000 mile service done, I would suggest that as well... To get the most out of your car you are going to have to be willing to spend a little bit of money at times... you will also need a MBC as well unless you plan on running stock boost levels... If you have any questions please feel free to call me, my number is in my signature!

NEEDing to get a tune (because you changed parts) or wanting to get a tune?

A tune at a good shop is one of the best bang for buck things out there, especially if you can get them to verify that the car is healthy too. You are not going to get as much power out of pretty much any other $500 mod.

Bring it to Moore automotive.. There are a lot of happy costumers with tunes that Chris has done.

OP, let us know if you would like for us to look over the car for you. Also we have all the logging equipment so you dont need to buy anything in that regard. Are you in the military? If you are its less than 350.00 for the tune. We take care of our fellow military guys.

Btw, take good care of your Evo and it will last a long time. If you have not had your 120k service you might want to look at doing that sometime soon. Let me know if you ever have any questions sir. You can pm me or any of the other guys at the shop and my cell is in my sig if you want to text/call with questions.

Have a great weekend brother.

Mikey
