Is that a offense that you can be pulled over for? I think seat belts are a secondary offense in VA, so if he had no other reason to pull you over he has no reason to write the ticket. I know it sounds kinda ****ed up the way I wrote it but hopefully you understand

Exhaust system is illegal in the state of Virginia, even if it was put on by the factory. Thats what a state trooper told me when my car died on 66.

That's the danger with letting state troopers interpret the law...

VA laws suck. SW washington has no emmisions or DEQ or whatever. since when should an aftermarket exhaust be illegal? hell, they might as well make cars illegal. i guess if you want to fight it in court, put your stock exhaust back on and see what you can do. other then that, put the bastards name in whowhere.com and burn down his porch.

Several of my members were hit with that same citation I think its 110 if I remember correctly. They got around it by showing that the aftermarket mufflers passed VIEP or VEIP standards. Just go to court with the emission slip and your good. If they decide to go further do what someone else mentioned as far as them proving its to loud

I have been thinking I will find a dB meter somewhere, and test my friend's exhaust against mine. The JIC exhaust with the silencer in there is almost stock quiet. It's pretty ridiculous..

I'm coming to fight it on the 20th, too (I also got ticketed). I have a feeling we'll come out ahead...

Fairfax cops are the worst. They are notorious for picking on import cars. I've gotten ticketed for an illegal exhaust as well. The cops examined my car for about 30-45 minutes in my neighborhood and started asking me questions like "How many miles on the car?" and "Is The Fast and Furious your favorite movie?"... WTF!!! Next time, I'll ask if Super Troopers is their favorite movie.

If you guys beat the tickets, please let us know so others can learn how.
