I bought a M3
When I first drove a M3 I wasn't impressed. I thought it was overpriced and the performance, although remarkable, it was unexciting compared to my Evolution. Now that I have a M3, my opinion has changed...drastically. The M3 isn't just about the badge. It has its own aura, mystique. I got a convertible too and driving with the top down is comparable to none. Now I understand why a lot of people buy a M3. I understand what they mean when they say, "...it's awesome."

Wow, wish I could have $90,000 worth of cars in my driveway!
My good friend picked up an 05 with the Competition Package and loves it. I've yet to ride in it though. He's upgrading the exhaust I think.
He traded in his 02 M3. He wouldn't race me in the Evo though... Not after I gunned it around a corner in first and laid 4 even patches!

The competition package is a $4000 option and (I was at my dealer yesterday) the only additions I saw were the suede steering wheel, carbon fiber trim, bigger brakes, wheels, and tires. The suede steering wheel eliminates the controls for the radio and cruise control on the steering wheel. The car with the CP I saw at the dealer had no navigation nor heated seats and it was SMG. Personally, I'd rather drive a manual. I'm not a fan of autosticks. And come on! No heated seats?! What bimmer has no heated seats?!
I wouldn't suggest changing his exhaust because voiding the warranty, especially on a M3, is a very expensive risk. Trust me, parts for this car don't come cheap. You WANT to have warranty on it. If he happens to break something, well...you get the picture.
Why change the exhaust anyway? The sound the M3 makes is sweet on top. The car redlines at 8000+ for Heaven's sake! It has a quiet rumble standing still. If he wants more power, get a chip. More noticable power without being obvious.
