UTAH:gauging interest for AWD Race class-SCCA

Hey Utah Evo members! (okay that was cheesy )...

I've been discussing with someone in the SCCA about making an AWD Turbo race class for Road Racing next year for our region.

Right now I am trying to gauge interest in who would be interested in rubbing paint next year. This will be setup somewhat like the very popular "SPEC MIATA" class but with Evo's and STi's in mind. If anyone knows and if I am correct the SPEC MIATA class is a result from a couple of guys from Texas that decided to build some Miata's for racing a few years back. Well now look at the class, it's one of the most popular classes Nationwide. Wouldn't it be a lot more fun trading paint in an Evo and especially dive bombing a STi?

Anyway the thought is for next year. We're looking at 3 to 4 (or more, depends on the interest) races next year at MMP. Pretty much we can make our own rules/regulations as a group since this will be a new class.

Keep in mind though there are two things that are a must...

1. Getting your race license. If we get enough people, we will hold a driver's school at the beginning of the year.

2. Having a rollcage (SCCA Compliant) and saftey equipment. Most think cages are pricey. Well some are but Autopower does bolt-in cages that are SCCA Compliant and they are only $749.00. But if we get enough people, we can setup a group buy and save at least 10% (I know cause i just ordered 3 )

Well if you are interested (seriously interested, not just talk ) , post here!

Oh, one last thing, I don't wanna create an account over at noisaic (sp? suby forum) but if you know any STi owners, please pass this on.

Thanks for your time and have a good day!

Sorry vt ...

This type of thing for me in my EVO looks like about three years down the road.

Luckly I'm pretty close to stock so this would be an upgrade path versus an enormous swap on some parts, so I'm interested in seeing what rules we might be put to.

Another idea of such a contest that might not come to head to head racing is a timed event, something like the One Lap of America. Cars might be classified based on what they have, but there would still be a heap load of driver skill involved.

Good Luck,

Cheers,

~j.
