state inspection in Denver/ HELP
Hello,
I'm moving to Denver and want to know the following:
Will headers be okay for visual inspection or not?
Any issues with 264/272 HKS cams?
After market TBE okay?
Do they put the car on a dyno to do emissions testing?
Are they tough or pretty relaxed with the rules?
Thanks in advance,
Sigfrid

I care and I live in Co, but I just got out of the Navy and just bought my EVO so I am in the same boat as you. Call the inspection place. I have an 05 so I was exempt from an inspection for a while. See I do care, we are best friends, remember that time in band camp when you put that thing???? ohh wait never mind that wasn't you. Just kidding.

Emissions testing
I have no clue what goes on in Colorado. There are dyno e-tests in California aren't there?. I had heard somewhere that Colorado was tough on emissions. All I know is in Houston, I put my cat on the car and can pass emmisions with all my mods. If I have to remove mods from my car, I would like to do it here, with all my tools and my parts. Once I leave, it will be hard for me. This is why I am asking. I am glad people care and appreciate the feedback.

They do put your car on rollers to run it and check the exhaust... I don't think it is a dyno though. You won't pass with a test pipe, but maybe with a hi flow cat. Not sure about the visual inspection they do and what will suffice... I just got my Evo recently and it's exempt for a few years.
its not like they test your hp or something like that. they put it on rollers and take it up to speeds from 15 to 60 and inbetween in a range. they first do a visual inspection to see if you have a cat and muffler or if there are any glaring exhaust holes. they will look under the hood but shouldn't have a problem with headers untill the actual testing. you will not know if you passed untill you pay them thier fee of $25 which might have gone up. this was last years pricing. they also check your gas cap. if you fail then you get one more free test. each year of car has a different requirment of minimum emission output to pass.
aggressive tunes will probably mean fail
no cat will mean fail
headers should pass visual as well as aftermarket exhaust.
you will however **** off a lot of people because its indoors and will be LOUD with exhaust.
i have two more years before i have to take my evo to get tested and I will be putting on my stock exhaust and cat before testing. I recomend you at least put on your stock exhaust and make sure there is a cat on your car. after that i would try to pass before deciding to change cams/tune.

E-test
Thanks a lot. According to this, it states that the test is after the 4th year. My car is a 04 so it will not need that test until 08.
We will see very soon as I am already in Denver and expecting my car in 2 weeks.

No problem
my car is an '05 so '09 is my first test. It used to be that if your car was registered out of state, no matter what year, it would have to be tested when registered in CO. Apparently they did away with that as of sept. 2005 thank goodness
