New road course coming to Colorado
New road course coming to Colorado
It's going to be 6.26 miles long all together!!!! This will consist of two circuits - a 3.72 mile circuit and a 3.17 mile circuit that can be used at the same time for separate track events, or combine the two for the 6.26 mile circuit. There will be substantial elevation changes with long straights and a variety of different types of turns... here, take a look at the proposed track layout and other info:

There was talk about it being done at the end of 2007 but it's more likely to be ready for spring of 2008. If things go according to plan they will break ground this coming spring. So far, everything has gone according to plan - the land is leased, the permits are taken care of, zoning isn't an issue, and the track designer (Martin Thake, a Champ Car circuit designer) has been contracted. He's the one who came up with the renderings. Everything looks to be on track so far - no pun intended. With past talks of tracks being built out here this project appears to have gotten past the hurdles that have stopped other plans.

Ya know there was talk a few yrs ago about Bandimere moving out near DIA and that was shot down and so was all the other tracks they have proposed. They have put in the paper every yr for the past 5 yrs and everytime they get shot down by the county's. Adams county, even unincorperated Adam's doesn't want it. Same thing for Aurora. So once I see the land actaully being dug up, then I will beleive it. Don't get me wrong I have 2 sport bikes and would love to have a track better than the now closed Pikes Peak (which sucked anyways) to race on. But I have been holding my breath for a while and I'm about to pass out. Maybe we will get a track once the people that move within a 30 mile radius of DIA stop complaing about the noise from the planes. Since the noise and traffic are to big points they like to make and get it voted off the ballot. That is what they do in California at Laguna Seca Raceway. Complain about the noise and since the people that complain are rich they get what they want. Same for CO....unfortunatly.

I just went to the web page and was excited to see it that it actually may go through. But they need the money first. I can hold my breathe a little while longer I guess.

PPIR management fought fiercely against any type of track being built in the Denver area. They saw any track as a direct threat to their revenue, and they were very successful at fighting against any proposals. That's ultimately why they were bought out by the company who bought them. And that's also why the company who bought PPIR and now is selling it has written a clause into the contract of the sale that will not allow PPIR to host any pro spectator events. It can be a club track but that's it. This is because the people who bought PPIR plan to build a super speedway (nascar track) in the Denver area at some point and they don't want any competition from PPIR. This being a club track will not have any of these issues, especially now that PPIR management is out of the picture.
The noise issue that has blocked any track being built in the area is simply due to the fact that you cannot expect to build a track so close to a metro area where people live (or where new homes are going to be built). It simply won't work. You have to locate further away from the metro area. Too many proposals have been for sites too close to the Denver area. Land developers want to build homes there, not tracks. And locals don't want a track right next to their home. That's just how it's always been no matter what part of the country you're in. The groups trying to plan tracks out here couldn't get that figured out for some reason and thus, kept having problems with getting permits for the land they chose.
This track proposal is not as close to the Denver area and the locals in the area where it's going to be built have already gladly accepted the proposal, which is why all the permits and zoning is taken care of. There is no local voting that needs to be done. No begging and pleading that needs to happen. The local community is embracing this project fully, which is a major accomplishment. No other track plan in our area has had this going for them.
So you see, all of the issues that were problems for past track proposals are not issues for this one. Yes, they still need to raise money but I personally don't see that being a major problem. There is a need for the track and there are plenty of potential investors who will want to be involved in this project - what other proposals have you seen that have 2700 acres to play with and all of the permits taken care of? That's a massive amount of land with a ton of potential. With the locals backing the plan I don't see how it won't move forward where other proposals have died.

Even though I sounded skeptical, I am really hoping they build it. I told the wife today that I am keeping both my bikes. 1 to ride everday the other to race. She didn't seem to happy but ohh well. She's just going to have to get a 2nd job to support my toys...jk
I just moved out here to Colorado in 2005 and knew about Second Creek closing before we moved out. Then a few months later it was announced that Mead and PPIR were closing as well. Needless to say I was a little disappointed and have been following every track proposal very closely. I've also been working closely with the Rocky Mountain NASA group to help get their organization started up here in our region in hopes that it would trigger more enthusiasm around racing, and hopefully improve our track situation. I've met a number of people through NASA, including Kevin Rogers, who is one of the partners leading this project. This is a stand-up guy who is really into racing. I've got a lot of confidence in his abilities and his desire to get things done. After talking with him about the track situation out here he seems to understand the issues that have been had with previous track proposals - issues that I just figured were common sense.
Believe me, I would love to see 2-3 new tracks in our area, but chances are that there will only be 1, maybe 2. I think Genoa will be one of them for sure.

Well like I said I reall yhope it does happen. I think that most states need race tracks. I know I have heard it before from cops but "why don't you take it to the track" "Well I would officer but there is no track" I was stationed out in Guam and that's what happened. Kids were racing there cars/bikes and dying and they built a drag strip with a big parking lot to race around some cones. Not great but it reduced the number of fatalities on the public roads. Anyways, I hope it does cause I will be up there racing either the car or the bike, heck maybe both. Now what's this I heard about some place to cruise and maybe get a few races down off of 3rd & Osage near Alameda I guess. Anyone know???
