Where do you get tires? Heres where
Where do you get tires? Heres where
To all those in the Chicago-land area:
Im writing this to hopefully help out fellow Evo owners, but also to extend my thanks for some great service. I have always worried about where to get tires mounted on nice and/or expensive rims, especially after some bad experiences in the past.
I was introduced to Discount Tire on Bell Road in Homer Glen by my dad who held them in high regard. He was right. They have always treated me well, and I noticed one of there employees even owned an Evo.
Fast forward to this last month, and as you may or may not have read I finally found a set of rare (to the US) Evo VII oem rims. I had to deal with many issues getting them, and when they got here I ended up with used rims as opposed to new ones. (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=264430)
Anyhow, I wanted to get my tires dismounted off my VIII rims and mounted on my "new" VII rims. Thats when I noticed the guy who owned the Yellow Evo at the afore mentioned Discount Tire was actually on EvoM. His name is John, screen name YELOEVOVIII. I figured being a fellow Evo owner he would make sure my rims were in good hands.
I went to Discount Tire Saturday and was blown away by their service. John was very friendly and explained everything completely, and then actualy listened to my concerns (its very rare to find any automotive place that listens these days). He had Roberto work on my car, and even had him spin my rims on the balance machine before the tires were mounted to ensure they had no bends or other structural issues (since they came used). Foberto was also kind enough to let me watch his work and made small talk explaining where the process was at the current time.
About a half hour later I had my VII rims on my Evo, with no scrapes or other issues on the rims. Why am I telling you this? I know many of you spend $2000+ on your rims, and Im sure some of you worry about the well-being of those rims while they are having tires mounted just like I do. This place will get the job done right, plus John is part of this community.
Ill get some pictures up soon, and for those who havent seen this thread the Discount Tire location is having a car show the 26th of May:

Again, just wanted to get the word out about a good place to buy tires and get great service.

Yea, Im still surprised how well things turned out seeing as how they are the stock rim size. Are you planning on keeping all the Evos next to each other on the 26th?

im glad someone posted this. im not hugely far from homer glen and was thinking of getting some wheels this summer. glad to hear they take care of it and dont scuff the new shoes, a lot of places will and then not give a crap about it. looks like im going to this discount tire when i get my wheels. car looks great too with the VII wheels.
Yup, Discount Tire rocks. Their location here in Springfield, IL does an excellent job too. They were charging $40 more per tire of the Toyo Proxy 4's then matched what RRM was asking for them, but also gave me their warranty. I've only bought tires twice, once was at another shop which I went back to 3 times because the new tires were off balance and shook my steering wheel violently at > 50 mph. They never got it right. I finally took that set in to Discount Tire Co, and they got it right the first time.
