It might be a little early for people to start buying snow tires yet. But for anyone driving an EVO in Minnesota, I'd strongly recommend them. Those stock Yokohama tires look just like the Yokohamas that came on the 95-99 VR4s and they can't do anying in the snow. It would be like having bald tires. EVO 8s definantly need snow tires for a Minnesota winter.

My favorite snow tire is the Dunlop Winter Sport M2. Thats what I run on my Eclipse GSX in the winter.

Curt, would you recommend getting different wheels as well? And if so, will 16" or dare I dream 15" wheels fit over the breaks? Thanks.

Well, you could certainly use the stock rims, it just depends if you want to go through the hassle of taking it some place every Spring and Fall to get one set of tires unmounted and another set mounted. If you have dedicated rims for you snow tires, then you can just swap them off and on in your garage.

Those Brembo brakes are pretty huge. I'd be surprised if you could find a smaller diameter rim that could fit. There will probably be some 17" rims that won't fit. You'll have to search around. It may come down to getting the right offset. One offset of a rim might fit, but a different offset might not.

So, how do I get all you Minnesota EVO owners to come on over to the All Mitsu Cookout in August??

Curt

Thanks, Curt. I'll look around and post what I find out. I am definitely looking to get a second set of wheels.

And yes, you can expect me at the cookout - as long as my ride comes in - expected at the end of July Waiting sucks

From what I've seen, we'll need 17s to fit over the Brembos, and I think Curt is right about the offset issue. Personally, I'm leaning towards putting some good all seasons on the factory wheels and getting new rims (18s?) and a set of Azinas (spelling) for next summer.

I'd say go with dedicated snow tires on the stock rims, instead of all season tires. It makes a big difference when you are driving in snowy conditions. Snow tires have come a long ways. They have a lot of H rated snow tires out there. H rated tires actually perform half way decent in dry conditions. A lot better than the Q rated tires. (99 mph)

Snow tires and AWD really makes those snowy days fun.
