South Holland Mitsu Pt 2

Hey everyone

I wanted to tell everyone about the experience my wife and I had at this 'lovely' dealership...

So, we're looking for an 09 outlander and found some good deals out in monee...my wife emails from autotrader inquiring about one she likes and lo and behold, she mistakenly emails south holland mitsu and tells them they have one in stock. After telling them that she meant to contact South Sub mitsu (monee one), they tell her that they'll beat any price they have and btw they beat them in sales last month, so, eventually, my wife calls South Sub anywayz to see what they have to offer and the one she was interested in wasn't in stock but have others if she wants to c them, she also tells them about their prices online and just comfirming that's what they're going for, bc in comparison to South Holland's they're pretty good. So South Holland starts calling and blowing up my wife's phone, finding out if she's interested in the car, yaddayaddayadda, and once she tells them about south sub's pricing they tell her that that's just a marketing ploy to get her in the dealer bc that price they gave her is the one with all of the incentives and rebates applied to it, but they'll match any price. So, based on that, and also the fact that they have the one she wants in stock, we opt to go to the dealer when she gets off of work.

So she meets the mgr she spoke on the phone with (pretty nice guy) and lets another salesman (not so nice guy) take the reigns and off we go with song and dance. They had the car ready to go, and let us test drive it right away. Drive was satisfactory, but the car was the 2wd not the 4wd my wife and the mgr talked about. So, we tell the unkool salesman about it, but makes sure that the price we negotiated will probably go up higher since its a 4wd. That pisses us off a little, but we wait and see how the talks go. So they threw us a price 4K above what was negotiated, and told them that we negotiated for the 4wd and now bc they messed up claiming we asked 4 a 2wd, they wouldn't honor it. My wife and mr. unkool gets into it and ends up telling her that she has an attitude and then talks to his mgr concerning the issue. What ended up happening was after talking to 2 higher ups than mr. unkool (nice guy, and then an even older nice guy), after talking numbers, how much is sticker vs. dealer invoice, 2wd vs. 4wd, this dealer vs. that dealer, but during the negotiating, my wife throws an 'out the door' offer, which was pretty much let's rape and pillage your dealer offer, but by no means not a lowballing offer, but then we hear these snide comments in the background saying, "there's the door, get out!" and this is where the mgrs and such are at! After that, we were so pissed and angry, that we just took our kids and left...

What happened to just saying 'no' nowadays?? and what happened to salesman's ettiquette are they totally thrown out the window? But although they did offer us a good deal, we refused and decided to take out business elsewhere bc they were just so rude and inappropriate...wow

I'll believe that the economy is in bad shape when customer service starts to show its face again. . . I've always been fortunate in that most car sales people I've dealt with I haven't wanted to sink.

Have you looked at carmax.com to see if their prices on new mitsus is competitive with what you're seeing? You may have to take a trek to Wi to get the car, but you may get a fair price with no hassles.

well the price offered was pretty good 19K with 4wd and sunroof and sound pkg ... but man, yeah, I've got no words to say esp. with the economy the way it is now, you would at least have butt kissing or something going on...God knows not everybody's as frugal as they once were...

the problem that i can see is in the hiring process or should i say the hiring criteria to become a car salesman...........there is none.

i mean how many times have we read forumers going to a car dealership and the forumer knows more than the car salesman? heck i wasnt even told where my metal key was or how to start my car if the key fob fails. all they care about is you signing on the dotted line so they can get to the next customer and getting their commission.

i was shocked to find out that at least in the dealership that i go to, car salesmen are paid $0 and its 100% commission based income and everybody has to be full time. imo this is where the problem lies.

one of the things that ticked me off was not only was it the salesman's demeanor that was off, but it was also mgmt as well...

Feh. I looked around online, finally found the Evo I wanted for a price I was happy with, went to Carmax to test drive it, liked it, bought it, drove away in it. No arguing, no haggling, no attitude. To hell with commissioned sales, as far as I'm concerned.

Sorry to hear you had such a problem with South Holland, sounds like they watched "Glengarry Glen Ross" too many times.

ya I hate negotiating...

went to check out a couple dealers local - showed them the deal SH offered us and compared to see if they can give us a similar deal...when the dealers called the sweethearts in SH, they said they only offered that much to see if we were serious about buying the car and wasn't really a true deal?!!! wth??!!

so ya, South Holland

your three diamonds are definitely 3 lumps of coal right now

So, me and the wifey picked up the new member of the family in the form of an 09 outlander - black, sound and roof pkg, also with mud flaps and scuff plates. Awesome ride! We got it from the Monee dealer - my first impressions was that the place was very small, but they were like the only dealer in the area and had a huge inventory it seemed considering its size and a pretty nice and kool staff. South Holland in comparison was like a 'hood dealership. The salesman that handled us there didn't even look like a salesman, I thought he was a porter at first! Got a decent price on it, even though I think we could've gotten it down more, but at least we were to come away with a feelgood sale, and qualifying for the 0pct doesn't hurt either!

I got to say though, the paddle shifting is awesome!!! the new tranny you can barely feel the shifts, but we only got the 4cyl. so, doesn't really feel too powerful. But I'll take gas economy over anything! Monee FTW!!!

Wow these guys are thirsty - called up my wife again a couple days ago to see if she was still interested even though they knew she has the car already...even asked specifics about our deal - how much we paid, and how much we got for our trade in...then call a day later to tell her that they were willing to give her 12K for trade in and sell the car 4 19K...wish they would just leave us alone
