New NASCAR cars.
New NASCAR cars.
Save the lame anti-oval racing, comments, some people may find this interesting because several big changes are about to take place in nascar,
First of all, the cars are being redesigned, in the name of safety and competition, the new cars will be fully phased in for the 2008 season, but short track and superspeedways for 2007 will use the new bodies,
the cars are taller and wider and the driver is more towards the center than before, to put more space between him and the "door", the cars also feature a front adjustable air splitter, similiar to the ARP splitter offered for the evolutions,
also note the car in the picture on the bottom is running with a wing, instead of a blade type spoiler.
Another note for 2008 they are switching to unleaded fuels.
And expect an anouncement Monday by toyota that they are going to be entering the Nextel Cup series in 2008 with the redesigned camry.
and a lot of big teams look like they are going to be jumping ship,
cant wait to see a japanese auto manufacturer compete at this level with the american cars in what is deemed an american motorsport. nascar lol.
Toyota already has made a name for themselves in the lower division of the NCTS, with the tundra.
This is a big change almost an overhaul of the series, Redesigned cars, unleaded fuels and a japanese manufacturer.
Now if they would only add about 8 more road courses to the schedule
These cars are just being tested currently, they will be a lot more refined by the time they are put into competition.

that is cool.....I am a racing fan period (check where I live). I wondered when Toyota was going to make the jump to the cup series.
The cars in the pic look like Dodges.......due to the "cross" grill

Let me guess.....Tony Stewart fan?
Gotta support my fellow Hoosiers!!
Yeah.... 2 or 3 more road courses would be nice. Would give guys like both Gordons, Stewart, and the "hired guns" Ron Fellows and Boris Said more chances for wins.

Ya those are dodges.
04wwrs I was at daytona when stewart won the 400 last year, I have a few pics ill look for them, I was actually sitting close to where that picture was taken from.
I am a McMurray fan, he was the only one that had anything for your driver after Waltrip wrecked.
He was the only person that could pull up on stewart and actually get around him, with earnhardt pushing him up there.
Stewarts car was so on for that race nobody could enough momentum to carry themselves by.

That'd be cool if you could dig thoes pic's up. My gf got me tickets to the 500 for x-mas so I hope he can make it 2 in a row.
Isn't McMurray moving to another team? Or is he the one going to replace Mark Martin but couldn't get out of his contract 'till next year.

Good info, I think the new car designs are kind of strange looking, especially the big square front spoiler / splitter combination. If they put those wings on we will for sure see allot more domestic rice - Cant wait to see the grandma's Taurus with a huge wing on it. Down here I already see the occasional intrepid with a big ricer wing but I guess I'll be seeing allot more of that sort of thing.
IMHO Nascar is FAR more entertaining than Le Mans, WRC, F1, or any other version of motor sports out there today - I watch them all. It’s the largest growing spectator sport in the nation unlike all of the other motor sports series that you mentioned that are continually going downhill. I used to be an oval track naysayer until a friend took me to a race, then I started watching on Sunday and got hooked. There's more to Nascar than what you'd see if you only watched it for like 5 minutes, it's more than just going in circles but if your prejudiced against the sport as I once was you'll never get it, but I can tell you that you are missing out!

Kurt Busch is going to drive the 2 for Penske.
Michael Waltrip keeps NAPA as a sponser and has teamed with Jasper to drive his 55 car.
Martin Truex Jr. is now full time Cup with DEI.
Bobby Labonte moved to Petty Enterprises and will drive the 43
That's all the driver moves I can remember off the top of my head...

Anyway.....NASCAR is the one series where equipment is so close, that one small mistake on the track can mean the difference between winning the race and a mere top 20 finish. Many people down them for "driving in circles", but those in the know realize NASCAR drivers have a LOT of skill.
Not arguing here, just stating a fact.

Personally, it has nothing to do with driving in a circle. One of the most exciting ways of racing is on an oval where you can see the differences in inches sometimes of a mistake.
I confess I never gave NASCAR a chance. It's prob. b/c of my prejudices about a grassroots motorsport based on southern dirt track racing. One of the biggest reasons is also it's hard for me to identify with the fans of NASCAR and living in Ohio, I'm constantly confirmed this image.
Additionally, it does not help NASCAR's cause that there is hardly any racial and international integration and frankly, I believe the hardcore grassroots fans wouldn't like it too much either...(just my opinion, flame on if you'd like, I know most of you either disagree b/c you don't experience it, or disagree b/c you're turning your head on the issue) But to say this isn't an issue at all is wrong. NASCAR does not want to turn it's backs on the grassroots fans competely but I can see it's beginning to distance themselves away from this.
So you're wondering what I do watch?....
ALMS, WRC, ChampCar, IndyCar, F1, Speed World Challenge...
to me, the diversity of the fans, team members, and cars attracts me.

more road corses would be cool. i like watching them with my dad..and a drivers a driver. its not my bag baby, but those cars are crazy. 700hp no power steering, and huge slicks...talk about a workout...
