Racing seat height and track tire fitment

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a sparco racing seat that fits me (5, 9", 165 lbs, 34" waist) but I don't want it to sit real low; it would be great if it ended up approx height as the stock recaros. Any ideas. The sparco fighter maybe? Sparco sliders?

Also, I ordered a set of stock enkei's off ebay for track wheels and ups lost them. In the meantime, I had also bought RA-1 235/45/17's. I now, having read a lot of these forums, have decided that 5zigen f1norc's at 17x9 are probably my best option. Will my 235's fit on those until I wear them and get 255/40's?

Also, I'm about to throw on some eibach lowering springs; will that cause fitment issues with those wheels?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Nick

You are on the right track so far....RA-1's are a big gain on track. I would skip out on the springs man... save for JIC's if you want to play with suspension. I would say go with brake lines/fluid/pads and a swaybar.

I may be selling my Mueller JIC coilovers soon. with track tires it's a pretty good combo.
one good thing about the 235 s you won't have to work your fenders.

the seats require side mount brackets, look for a set that has high sides (mounting points for the seat) btw I have an unused carbon fiber seat left over, you need a skinny rear like yours to fit in them (I'm 5-8 150) the brackets that came with them made me feel like I was a midget.
If you want it let me know.

RA-1 255/40/17 fit fine on the stock 17" x 8" Enkei wheels. 5 Zigen wheels are expensive. I'd rather spend the money on all the many other expenses of tracking the car. John Mueller recommended this set up to me and I have been running on it for well over a year now -- no problems.

Thanks guys,

kingkyle- Yeah, Roadrace is going to add pads/fluid/steel lines and 25mm sway bar

nothere- what might you part with your JIC's for? When?

Richard EVO- are you the Racerfactory guy? If so, your events are awesome. You got me a ride in a Radical for most improved laptimes last Oct at Spring Mountain--unbelievable. Since then I've gone to two of Aaron Bittermans' events and those are a blast also.

Yeah, I've seen your other threads about stock wheels and 255's but I had already ordered the 235's. Now the enkei's are lost and I think the 5zigens look cooler. I'm trying to work all this out in my head.

Hey, do you guys know if I need to add camber plates to get the right track grip? I don't care about daily driving tire wear on the inside edges.

i just installed a set of sparco milanos in my evo after christmas. i'm 5'8" and i didn't want to be sitting any lower either. the sparco seat brackets mount the seat noticably higher... and it suits me fine. meanmud warned me that the sparco brackets put the seat much higher, he's 6'2or3 so i can see why he had to get other brackets.

I will be replacing them soon, if you are going to road race they could do the correct install for you. If you want them it would be about two weeks delivered.

The Sparco Fighter is a bigger seat and its also bottom mount w/no FIA cert. My recommendation for you would be to try the Sparco Evo or Corsa (more hip/thigh support than Evo). They were a bit tight for me and I'm only slightly larger than you (5'10" and 36" waist). Also I recommend the Bride FG rails for seat mounting. They really are a nice piece. You would end up about 1 inch lower than stock seating in their highest mounting position. I think this is a better trade off than having the crappy Sparco hardware where the seat rocks back and forth and is mega high.

Very useful info kekek, thank you.

nothere- what type of JIC coilovers are they? Are there camber plates with those? Should I add some? How does that stuff fit together?

No, you are thinking of Rich Barker, who runs RacerFactory. He does not have an EVO. I go to most of the RacerFactory events and many of the SpeedVentures events (Aaron's group) so you have probably seen me out there.

I'm not crazy, just misinformed. I thought 5 Zigen's were expensive. Maybe the guys over on the 350Z site just pay too much for them.

Wait a second, are you the guy that wears the I Hate Evos T-shirt? I was hanging out with Conway Ho up at Big Willow and I think I met you. If not, please disregard, and thanks for your input!

I'm 5'10" 175 and I fit in a Sparco Evo just fine. I had custom brackets to lower the seats as far as I could get them, which was probably about 2" lower than the OEM seating position, and I prefer it to stock. If you get a Sparco base you'll sit about 1" higher than stock, and that's without sliders. Feels like driving a truck with that base.

Here's a link where you can get brackets if you don't care about sliders and being able to move the seat, and want other custom stuff like a fire extinguisher mount or a place to mount sub straps. You don't have to sit as low as I do, just move the seat higher in the side mount.
