I heard that this track is quite tight (narrow) from a motorcycle guy, is this true?

I wouldn't say its narrow but its not super wide like Road America. A lot of the newer tracks like Autobahn are being built wider than usual. I'd say its similar to Gingerman or Grattan in Michigan. Here's a in car vid from a Midwest Council Solo 1 event. http://planet-torque.com/ms/mc051703/051703lap3hq.wmv

Jeez-just don't go off: lots of trees and tire walls. Looks like an old time track from back when safety was an afterthought.

The only safer tracks I can think of is the new Autobahn Country Club in Joliet and Gingerman in Michigan. Road America, Milwaukee Mile, and Grattan have much closer walls. I wouldn't say Blackhawk is a dangerous track.

yeah, you don't appreciate the space and lack of walls til you drive something else, like sebring (which has full walls, but decent run-off) or homestead, which has little run-off, but some, and lots of walls.

I miss g-man

Putnam, Mid-O & even VIR (all of which I have driven, along w/Gingerman) seem to have much more run-off room, especially in critical areas. I haven't driven Blackhawk, so I don't really know, its just that the video makes it look pretty unforgiving.

I've driven Blackhawk quite a bit. None of the trees or tirewalls are nearly as close as the video looks. Besides, who plans on going off?

Hmmmmm.....

It's interesting to look at the skid marks on the track (and grass) when lapping there. Nearly everytime I go I see someone fly off into a tire wall. That being said its usually old **** box cars that are being driven way to hard.

Blackhawk is hard on brakes.

I'd say 99% of the offs I've seen there are during the Time Attacks when people are really pushing it. I've been to 4 or 5 lapping days there and haven't seen anybody hit anything during those. I've been to about 15 Time Attacks there and pretty much every time 1 or 2 people hit something hard. I have a theory that when you start timing people then they crash.

I would have to agree with you.....the accidents normally happen during the last two sessions of a time attack.

I actually think BHFs is one of my favorite tracks to run on. I've gone off more at Gingerman than I have at BHFs.

This time I'll be running 3 year old kumho MX 225 series tires....I hope you allow drifting at your events.
