NASA RM - Official TT and HPDE3 results (PMI)
The results weren't posted until today, so I wasn't able to show "proof" before of the relative lap times.
Here are the TT results. Not a lot of competitors, since it was the first-ever event for the NASA Rocky Mountain region and since it was still in the Winter:
TT
Here are my lap times from my first session in HPDE3, which was when I was first able to use a transponder:
HPDE3
I'm trying to advance through HPDE3, then qualify for my TT license. Right now, I'd be in TTA.

Yes, I have to get into HPDE4, then I have to get evaluated as being ready for TT. After completing one HPDE4 event, then this applies:
"After filling out the NASA TT license application and getting the signed approval of the Regional TT Director, a driver may begin TT competition. After the driver completes one event day of TT competition, the Regional TT Director may (at his discretion) approve the application for a National NASA TT license, require an additional event day for evaluation, or deny the application and counsel the driver on what is needed to become successful at the next attempt."
That is straight from the NASA TT rules posted here:
http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/Time-Trial-Rules.pdf
So it applies to every region.

No,
It is not a regional thing. You have to have a National TT license, just got mine in the mail a few days ago. Nasa is being serious about time trial, and making sure that everyone out there is a competent DRIVER, not just behind the wheel of a very fast car. TT isa national championship event now. I think it's appropriate. In norcal there are routinely 40+ time trialers within the HPDE 4 group, and we also have our own session, a "shoot-out" at the end of the day.

going from hpde3 to 4 and then on to time trials is a huge jump, even if it does take 2 years. didnt you just start tracking? driving in traffic with people that have years of experience is a lot different and takes lots of practice compared to using the evo's autodriving capabilities to pass people in subarus and hondas in lower hpde groups.

From 3 to 4 and then racing is a much bigger jump than just going to time trials. Yes, I will be on the track with better drivers, but I won't be "race" passing. It's still significant, but 2 years seems like a while to make basically a one-class move. You're eligible for TT in HPDE4, so that's really the only step I need to take. A season to accomplish that seems reasonable.
Not sure I appreciate the autodriving comment. If that's all it is, then I shouldn't be passing the other Evos with suspension mods nor putting down the fastest lap of the weekend. I have a ton to learn still, but I believe I at least have above average skill. Did you look at the times in the links I posted or just check the thread and respond?

What are the passing rules in HPDE4? When I did HPDE3 a few years ago with NASA, I didn't notice much difference from HPDE2 other than the other drivers being a lot more aware of surrounding cars and a lot more courteous.
HPDE 4 is open passing - even if you won't be "race passing" everyone else will be. It might only be one class, but there is a huge difference in ability, awareness, and experience between the two.
i wasnt saying you cant drive, im saying just because you can throw down a fast lap time doesnt mean you're ready for TTs. give yourself a few months in 4 getting passed by cars you didnt think could move that fast in gaps you created that didn't you know existed before you jump into time trialing.
Believe me,
in norcal, in group 4...it's definitely like race passing.
