well, now i'm leaning towards the Kuhmo Ecsta MX... in a 245/40...

anyone have experience with these...?

i've heard so many bad things on the S03's on the EVO, that i'm gonna pass up on them, although i've always liked them in the past...

Dont save

Dont save money on tires , i dont know about the Kumho , its sounds cheap to me , the Pirelli P-Zero Nero cost about $205 each tire for 235-40-18 , They are perfect on dry and rain i dont think you need to go to 245 if you can fit with the 235 .

Just curious. I think the stock rims are pretty fly, why wouldnt you want to invest that money into performance since specifically got those rims for the evoviii. I would be worried of losing performance. This isnt a "dub" ride, its a rally car, beef up the performance and keep it that way.

What if you want to do both. Everyone has different taste. I personally dislike the wheels on the EVO. Mitsu could have gotten the wheels from Volk and people would still make changes. This is a performance car, how many people do you know that are going to rally race the car? Notice that Mitsu sold the car with "Street" tires.

Go with the 245's and if these tires are mainly for street driving, then just get decent tires, with decent performance, longer tread life, and a reasonable price. There's no reason to spend $300 dollars a tire if your not going to use them for track records at the circuit.

so, you're telling me that moving up to a Volk wheel is downgrading the performance...?

thanks for the input anyhow... but i like my car to look different... doesn't matter what car i'll ever have i'll most likely be changing the stock wheels...

I have 245/40.17 Kumho MXs on my 98. I am quite impressed so far with both their dry weather and wet weather grip. Their wet weather grip is not up to my favourite budget tyre (Hankook 405), but there again, their dry weather grip is significantly better.
Don't kno whow they compare (dry) to Falken Azenis, despite this weekend's dismal weather - Hoosiers still beat out street tyre until there's a couple of inches of standing water :-)

Personally if I was on 18" rims I would revert to my favourite tyres, the above-mentioned Hankooks, which are, sadly, only available in 18" sizes now. Great wet grip, decent dry grip.

Toyo T1-S, the only way to go! They weigh in at 20.9 lbs. Lighter than ANY other tire you will find, and they are superior in wet and dry.

Check em out.

I'll buy into the bad comments on the Kumho Ecstas, as they are cheap and worth every penny (in other words, cheap tire = cheap ride).

The MX has only been out a month or two, so I highly doubt anyone has "experience" to make a sweeping judgement on them. All I have heard has been very favorable, comparing them closely to the Azenis.

As for Comp TA's, theres a good reason they are not used by anyone in autocross street tire competition... their handling sucks. They ride nice, look cool, but cost a lot and don't have anywhere near the grip of a set of Azenis.
