Will an off balance rear wheel cause a vibration in the steering wheel?

Just like the title says... I'm wondering if this is possible to narrow down a problem.

Thanks!

It's possible.. I had a slight vibration on the highway and thought it was a front that was unbalanced. But when I had my rears replaced and balanced on a high-speed balancer the vibration went away.

Good to know I think i'm having the same problem. I had a shop check the balance on all four of my tires. Three of the wheels were fine while one was off but it was in the rear. I've had a slight vibration in the steering wheel but it was intermitent. When the rotated my wheels that vibration became alittle bit more pronounced. I just had the shop balance only my front two wheel since they were in the rear and my vibration went completely away.

Yup. Always make sure the shop has a newer balancer that can put load on the tire and spin it at a higher speed. The old ones could only balance up to 55mph or so and without any load. That doesn't help when the vibration sets in at 70+ with the car's weight on it.

It could; but more often that not, if a rear wheel is out of balance, you'll feel the whole car vibrate; if its a front wheel out of balance you generally only feel it in the steering wheel.
