brake squeel on new brakes
Just bought an evo and the original owner put new rotors and pads, not generic though.. I belive the pads are hawk and they are ceramic and the rotors are dimpled not slotted. Anyways my brakes squeel at low speeds under 10mph, not all the timebut most and the squeeling gets real loud from 2mph-0 stopping... What can i do to fix this, they are pretty much brand new, about 1200-1500 miles on them.. the original owner never beat on the car it was a 67 year old woman who only bought it because her 13 year old grandson liked it, she was rich
let me know thanks

its really embarassing though with people there and im coming to astop and its a really loudd squeel i mean its definately not like that on any other cars or evos ive heard, something must be up
lol i know what u mean, but you'll get use to it. most evo have that problem, mine and my cousins. it's only when the car is slow like going for a stop and ect, mine is way loud too. so i won't worry about it.

damn, i been doing some reading maybe its because they are street pads, Well anyhow Im going to try and bed them and put some anti squeel, if that doesnt work im going to buy stock pads and sell these, they must have a decent amount of value being only 1500 miles old, 1350 of them were never braked hard and car never over 75-80 mph.....
The squeal is caused by lack of high temperature grease on the shims.
Copper or high temperature grease on the pad shims should help.
If you look in the how to section in here there are a few write-ups on brakes and proper installation procedures.

stock pad has so much dust, get's the wheel dirty in two three days, try to find some pad that is not stock, and don't make noise. i don't know if there is any, but search around, there is more than 1 thread about this type of stuff.

I replaced my pads and had the squeal. I realized that i didn't clean the metal shims with brake cleaner prior to re-installation. I then pulled the pads and shims, and "cleaned" the shims with brake cleaner, which gets them nice and shiny and got spray-on high temp compound from Auto Zone, now i get squealing about 5% of the time (at most). I am willing to bet your shims weren't cleaned when they were re-installed, and even the high temp grease won't fix that on dirty shims. I run OEM replacement pads and still the OEM/stock rotors with 71K on the odometer.
