Paint is just going to wear off in time. Powder coated would be beat and would last you a lot longer. But if your going to paint them go with Duplicolor Wheel Paint. It seems to work the best out of every thing i have seen. Just make sure you clean the **** out of your rims first. good luck

I used Rustoleum Bright Coat Gold. The color looks real nice, but the paint is impossible to keep clean, or even get clean.

Can any type of paint be used or must it be specifically for wheels?

A paint made specifically for rims will probably hold up better to brake dust & the elements.

You could use any paint you want though.

I did 4 coats of primer and 4 coats of paint, the clear didn't turn out so well, but it was probably my fault (ended up with 2 coats).

I'm sure 2-3 of primer would work but I would think about 3-4 for paint.

I use 4-5 of everything for stuff like this, primer/paint/clear. It will make it last a looooong time if you go slow and use 4-5 coats
