How much life left in my factory A046s?
How much life left in my factory A046s?
My car currently has 7,500 miles on it. It had 3,300 when I bought it. Since then I haven't rotated the tires or gotten an allignment (I intend to do the former this week), and I have no idea if the previous owner did either when he had the car. I've read of the stock Advan A046s lasting anywhere from 7,000 miles to 30,000 miles, but the general consensus is 10-15,000. I'm hoping I could get a general idea of how many miles I have left with the pictures below. Ideally I will use these tires until December or so, as I have yet to buy dedicated winter tires and would really hate to have to buy two new sets of tires by then. I bought the car in January and have put 4,200 miles on it since, so I'm expecting to put around that many daily driving miles on the car by the time winter rolls around.
The reason I'm worrying is because I will most likely be taking a road trip with some friends in a few weeks and that alone will put around 1200 miles on the tires. I did the penny test today and the back tires definitely have more life left than the fronts, so, as mentioned before, I'll get them rotated soon. But will that do me much good in the long run? Could I take my car on the road trip and still expect the tires to last until winter? I hope the pictures do a good job of showing the state of my tires. If not, I would be more than happy to go take more pictures. Thanks in advance for any advice/information.
Here is the front driver's side tire. The penny pictures go from the outside in. As you can see, the outsides are more worn than the insides, but it doesn't seem like a big difference to me:

Shi*, you've got more tread left than either of my sets of 046's. Unless tires sit around for more than 5 years and the rubber goes bad (gets hard {a bad thing with tires}-this can be checked with a durometer), they are worn out when the tires internal cords (threads) start to show through. Just remember, the more the tread blocks wear down, the faster the tire will be in the dry. In contrast, the more the tread blocks wear down, the scarier they'll be in the wet! Once you see cords, they're done!
you've got plenty of tread left. the only thing that sucks is you're burning up very expensive tire for a road trip... you'll probably use up $100-$200 worth of advan.

I got about 23000 miles out of my original set. Looks like you have plenty of tread left. No need to worry until you're down to the wear marks (little rubber bumps in your tread). As long as you have a decent aligment (looks like you do), the Advans don't really wear that poorly on the street. Track driving is another matter altogether, though....

I got 6,000 out of my first set. Anyhow, as long as the tires are not down to the tread wear indicators, you're okay. If they are, then you'll start losing wet tracking then dry, etc.
Seems like a decent amount of tread left, just rotate front to rears and they should easily last you the rest of the year. As long as nothing unforseen happens, or your alignment doesn't go out of whack (which it doesn't seem to be), or you don't track your car. Really depends on how hard you drive and how many miles you put on the car.

Maybe I'll be able to hunt down some really cheap/crappy tires before the trip.
