What kind of gas...?

I was actually wondering what kind of gas everyone uses in their 08's? And how the gas mileage is with the gas they use. I know it says to use to use 87 octane (i think it's 87) or 89, I'm not really sure. Anyone that uses higher? Any problems with higher/lower octane use?

Car is made for 87 octane. So I use 87 octane.

Lower octane use can be bad. It can lead to knocking, which will destroy the various parts of the motor over time.

Higher octane is generally just a waste of money. It is also said to be dirtier (because it's not being fully burned). Then there are also people who swear that it makes their car FEEL a million times faster. So it's kind of a judgement call on your part. FWIW, science seems to show that using higher octane is a waste.

Ya, I would just stick to 87 octane if that is what it is designed for. Cars only really need higher octane than stock when the air/fuel and timing is being altered.

Use the 87 recommended by the owner's manual. There may be some issues with living at high altitude, but I'm not sure on that.

Anyway, if you're into wasting money, you can run higher octane gas, but it will offer no benefit to your car!

More expensive, higher octane gas DOES NOT MEAN "better" gas! It simply means it has a higher detonation point, which is not an issue for a normally aspirated '08 Lancer.

Anyone who thinks their car performs better on higher octane gas is a victim of wishful thinking. That is, unless they have modified their car as above, or with higher compression pistons, a turbocharger, etc.
