Stupid Tune Questions

Guys,

Forgive me for my ignorance...

I am looking into getting a X and am looking into tunes.

Essentially all I would want to do from a modding standpoint (at least to start) is a tune and maybe an exhaust (if not too loud). I am looking to use the car as a DD.

I was under the impression that a piggy back would be the best option as it would not be too hard to put back to stock if warranty work was needed. Is that correct?

I have seen a few reflashes available that seem to have some good gains, but again, what if there is warranty work needed? How easy is it to get that back to stock and then reflash again? And how much downtime would there be if shipping is needed?

Third, based on the above, what would the best tune be for my situation?

Thanks guys!

You would need to buy something along the lines of this:

If you feel uncomfortable with flashing your own ECU, then I wouldn't recommend it.

You can go with something like the ZChip, the only evidence it leaves behind would be a small splice in one wire.

I'm not familiar with products like the cobb access port, as well as some other products. A bit of looking around on this forum should turn up something.

You're in luck because the ZChip just went on a manufacturing sale as the plug n play connectors have been more readily able to be sourced and manufacturing has sped up.

Its available for $399 now from us.

We are sending out positaps with our current orders that leave the equivalent of a pin ***** in one one virtually invisible.

There are plenty of posts on this forum discussing this very topic.

Accessport gives the ability to download and keep multiple maps with you. It can data log, has a plethora of gauges, and in the near future will allow you to tune yourself if you are into that stuff. I has a fail safe system that prevents you from bricking your ECU. It is completely undtectable by the dealer cause it stores you stock map. It is about as easy as it gets to to install, and takes no time to change maps after the initial time. I can not imagine going with another product that did not have all these options. I would be looking into ECUflash or the Accessport. Plus Cobb customer support is top notch. Always helpful and friendly. I will say according to Noise the moderator here there has never been a warranty voided due to an ECU flash, so that should not be an issue.

Hello,

The Cobb AccessPort would be a great option for a daily driver or full on race car. It installs in minutes with no wire taping or or permanent damage to wiring. Simply plug the AccessPort into your OBDII put under the dash and follow the on screen instructions. The tunes make great power and are very safe. If a custom tune is some thing you would like we have AccessTuner Pro's all over the US or you can tune your own car using the AccessTuner Race. Lots of options.

The AccessPort can be uninstalled with the same ease as the install leaving no trace that it was ever installed on the vehicle. Resale has also been notably high for the AP given it can be sold to another Evo X or Lancer RA (Will have support soon) owner without issue.

Here are some of the features you get in addition to several styles of tunes:
http://cobbtuning.com/products/?id=3942

Keep in mind the AP is not a piggie back, but an actual reflash of the ECU using stock tables to properly control all motor functions. Piggie backs trick the ECU into doing it's bidding giving less than full control of the motor. While the piggie backs have been proven to make power on the Evo X, it's not the most elegant solution.

Let me know of you have any questions?
