Help On Going To Straight Pipe
Help On Going To Straight Pipe
I want to go to a straight pipe. What am in in for with the O2 sensors and what are the work arounds? I see that Cobb has tunes for straight exhaust, how do they get around the O2 sensors? Do they just shut the maps off? How does that read in the case of an emisions type test where they only plug in the access port and do not sample the exhaust directly?
Also, are there any reliable open source solutions available yet if I were to go with the tactrix cable and a laptop? Same questions on the O2 sensors apply. What about data logging on the tactrix? Is it available yet.
Thanks alot in advance.

data logging is in beta so its not an official release yet.
as far as i know cobb doesn't have an o2 workaround yet but dont quote me on that since i'm using a tatrix cable.
if you go with a test pipe make sure it has an o2 fix and you wont have to worry about throwing codes (i have a UR which has a 45 degree bend in it and doesn't throw any codes even with a catback).
for emmisions i just put the cat back on get it inspected and then take it right back off. (2hrs a year for this isn't all that bad).

So what I've read elsewhere is correct. All you have to do is get the first O2 out of the direct exhaust so that it reads a little lower temp than the second O2. That's the reason for the 45 degree bend. The second O2 normally being in the middle of the cat and therefore reading hotter.
Since you're using the tactrix. Are you tuning your own or are there reliable maps out there? I'd be looking for drop in w/ straight pipe.

Not sure about the UR spacer but the AMS spacer is for the after-cat sensor. The sensor closer to the exhaust manifold is generally used to monitor engine combustion efficiency, the after cat sensor generally monitors the amount of catalysts that are being removed by the converter. You want to move the after-cat one out of direct exhaust gas flow limiting the amount of catalysts it reads tricking the ECU into thinking the car is still running "clean" so it doesn't throw a CEL.
