Test drove my first evo X! My impressions
Saturday went out and test drove this car: 2008 evo x GSR, no real options all stock... 13k miles

It was raining out, thought that would be a perfect time to go try out AWD cars
I got to the dealer in the afternoon, talked to a guy named Dave. He knew I was shopping for cars and not going to buy the 1st one I saw so he was really cool about me going out for a drive. I got in the drivers seat and really felt the recaro's hug me tightly... (maybe I should drop a couple lbs LOL) it was already started up, checked out the interior. I kind of see what everyone means about the quality of the plastics and such, there were streaks left behind from other people feeling the car up. Good field of view. It had the regular spoiler so there wasn't really an issue checking the rear view mirror.
first thing I noticed was the clutch. it was so freaking dinky soft, it felt like it was just a 5 pound push... and it engaged the gears near the last 3 inches instead of closer to the floor like my car(which has 30-40lb clutch estimating) every time I clutched I felt like I was about to put my boot through the firewall and the shifter was just really tiny too, I felt like all of the controls were just a tad shrunk, maybe because I was in a Japanese car and the only other car I've had since my camaro's and trucks was a full sized Infiniti I30t.
the car was very quiet, very no nonsense and easy to drive. I didn't care for the 5 speed, and the gear shifts seemed really notchy
, there was a bit of grindage getting in to second gear for some reason...
And the 1st light I pulled up to the engine idle jumped all over from 1k to 650 rpm really bouncy... I think there were some after market parts on this car, and it was tuned for them because this thing really wasn't happy just resting at idle.
I was very impressed getting out on the road. It was much smoother than my car, you can feel the stiffness when hitting potholes but there isn't any trouble keeping the car in a straight line. AND IT's QUICK! I thought I'd have to wind that thing up to get her to move down the road, but she was very responsive to some gas and definitely enjoyed picking up and going as much as I did
Lane changing is a JOY! no sloshing back and forth in a land boat, the car feels very light and nimble even for it's kind of beefier appearing size I was very happy with how it translates the controls from your finger tips to the road under you. gave me a smile.
even got a little hat tip from a guy driving an Audi A4. Most people look past camaro's built in the 90's so this car has got some head turning looks for sure.
Now this particular evo was traded in for a 350z. There were some door dings, and all 4 rims were scuffed
Not that I was going to buy this car but it was definitely safe to pass on. I have a feeling she had a short and abused life so far. If the evo is the way I go it will be a new 2010 model.
Since I'm probably going to keep my 6speed camaro I really want to try out the MR model. This car will be a daily driver that I'll be happy with just intake+exhaust and a tune. So I'm not shooting for over 400hp... or atleast I say that now till the bug gets me. I was satisfied with the reason this car was built FOR DRIVING FUN!! and for me if I pick on up I'll really want some options to justify the mid $30k car Something like SSS + leather seats on an MR would be very nice!
There was an MR I checked out in Tysons Corner near me, but they don't allow test drives on their evo's because: "Our evo customers are very particular about there being no miles on these cars when they buy them" I guess I respect that a bit, plus Tysons isn't a very friendly place right now with the torn up roads and moron mall cruisers around.
I'll keep yall updated on my next adventure!

Haha good read! I remember how I felt the first time I jumped in my Evo! I was so nervous driving it home. Had to take the highway, so you can imagine how hard it was to keep the car under 60. It's a great feeling when you drive something you love to get in and out off everyday. The car was viseral at first for me because I wasn't used to torque(read:RSX Type S lol!). It certainly grows on you. Now I wouldn't have it any other way.
I also have a daughter on the way, so the practicality of a sedan over a coupe come into play as well. Whatever your decision is, the Evo is a great all-arounder, be it that you want it as a DDer, track car, grocerie getter, etc. There's not many cars on the market balanced for activities like the Evo is, in it's price range.

Here's the black Evo I was thinking of scooping up:

can someone give me a feel for what a good OTD price on this would be?

dealer website has the car up for $36k I'd like to get it down a little more to feel happy about the purchase.
Actually, you're not too far off. You're paying only $1k more and you don't have to ship. If you can drop the price a couple hundred of dollars, you're in the ballpark.
BTW, make sure you test drive the car. I've heard the SST can be jerky in stop and go traffic.

That was the only time I enjoyed the thought of the SST when I test drove one.
