Transport driver abused my car during transport, any advice?

Hey everyone, I recently relocated for work and had my Evo transported to my new location. Upon delivery I noticed that my car had been driven about 7 miles and that my gas tank had a decent amount of fuel missing. I called the company and they determined that my car had been driven instead of transported from the flatbed base to the car carrier base. They told me that this was not supposed to have occurred. I took delivery of my car outside of my complex and due to the rain I simply got in and parked it. After the weather cleared up, I went to fill the tank and noticed that after a min or so of driving the car began to smell strongly of burnt clutch. I am going to take the car to the dealer so they can run a diagnostic. I was wondering if anyone had encountered this before or if anyone had any advice on the matter.

The car doesn't even have 3k on the odometer and I am worried as to how the car was driven and what long term damage it may have acquired that I may not find out for a while when something breaks.

Thanks everyone.

there should be no long term damage. the evo is quite capable to handle such abuse.

Yeh they can withstand abuse, but i only like "my" abuse, not other peoples..

I would get the dealer to grab the maximum rpm from the ECU.

I would get the fuel receipt showing how much fuel you put in. (ie how much fuel was used for the 7miles...

Then I would go back to the transport company with that evidence and demand some sort of compensation...

Tell them their driver took your car for a joy ride... I wouldn't be happy either...

It was Reindeer auto that arranged everything, but they contract local companies so that is where the problem is. I totally agree with Tephra and that is why I'm mad, I know everything that I put it through

7 miles of redline driving could be bad. Doesn't matter the distance. it only takes one launch to blow the TC...it only takes one miss-shift from 3rd back to 2nd to blow the motor or transmission

I'd be super pissed...thanks to tephra i have VALET mode...go ahead and try with a 2000rpm limiter.

I'll be sure not use Reindeer Auto for any of transporting. What's the purpose of hiring a company that's just going to hire another company to perform its task? Tsk tsk to the "middle-man"

Are you positive its the clutch burning? if so definitely take it in for invesitgation. I got my evo with 9 miles and it had a burning smell, more like the oil, and the service team checked everything, didnt find anything. It simply need to break in a little--it was gone once i got about 40-50 miles on it if that.

You might have gotten the burnt clutch smell from them loading it on the trailer. A lot of times they have to ride the clutch to get it up on there trailer. I'm sure the transport company didn't abuse the car. Trying to pursue anything with the transport company will get you no were. Upon recieving the car you signed a release clearing them of pretty much anything.

you aren't going to get anything out of this.... "Buy me a new clutch", that will never happen. "Buy me 5 gallons of gas"- thats a possibility.

Good luck, don't expect much though. The evo can easily handle the 7 miles of abuse, hell the guy may have been a better driver than yourself, there is no way of knowing.....

Just enjoy your car, and shuffle this new found experience in your brain next time you decide to use a transport company. Normal rule of thumb for transporting cars= Be there when the car is put on the truck, be there when it comes off. If you don't follow the simple rule, expect your car to be driven.

hah, just brush it off like it didn't happen? You guys are hilarious.

He paid for a service to transport his car so it didn't have to be driven. Now he claims there's 7 miles more on the car, it has gas missing, and a burnt clutch smell.

Let people take advantage of you and you'll be walked over time and again. Put your foot down and you get things done the right way and bad situations get remedied. I wouldn't stand for my brand new Evo X to be ragged on by some low life $8/hr cheapest contracted-out transporter who could probably never afford the car in the first place.

If your car appears ok, I'd just let it go. I doubt you will get anywhere with the car company. You may file a claim or something with the bbb if that makes you feal better. Pick your battles. It's probably not worth the aggravation and additional cost to pursue.

Check what you signed. You most likely signed away any and all rights to come back at the transport company upon receipt of the car.

I've had stuff transported before, and everything I've ever signed, post looking the car over, basically says "LOL HERE IS YOUR CAR HAVE FUN CANT SUE NO MORE".

Waivers are worth as much as the paper they are written on. There is always ways around them.
