Evo X SE?

Okay so i bought a new Evo X SE about 2 weeks ago and after doing some reading im starting to worry about the clutch. I dont kno exactly wut it can handle.

Im just looking to get the car to around 400 whp, no more for sure. I dont drive the **** out of my cars i just like to cruise around and partake in the occasional street race.

All i hear is that if ur a "racer" then get the GSR. I dont kno exactly what u consider a "racer" i like to race my car every once in a while, but i dont go to the drag strip every weekend.

Im moving to San Francisco in a few months and i figured this car would be perfect for that area, its a quick fun car on the corners and with some simple bolt ons ill still be able to stomp on most kids.

So i guess my question is, do u think the tranny will last good 100k miles or so with a driver who isnt a hardcore racer but likes a good race now and then. Im 20 and in the military so i cant really afford a costly repair so im just a little worried about blowing the tranny up.....

Thoughts/ADVICE plz!

Thanks,
Ethan

It likes to be beat on but not killed you should have no problem. I have 330 whp and are going to add a bbx lite to get close to 400 whp. just keep the TQ around 350.

I think you'll be fine. The transmission has demonstrated itself to be much more capable than originally thought (feared?). There are several of us north of 350 wtq who are doing just fine (and I don't baby my car, I do several road race events a year).

Going into super sport mode does not void warranty, its a feature of the transmission.

Mitsubishi is very sticky about warrantying the SST. If you mod your car at all, and are concerned about your warranty, you can never ever take it to a Mitsubishi dealership for anything. Not recalls, not service, service bulletins, nothing. They WILL check your car, and if they note something during a random visit, your warranty can be voided on the SST. This means you need to find a shop or mechanic you trust who is competent on the EVO, the SST, and stick with him as long as you own it.

If for any reason the SST does act up (they ARE pretty reliable), and you need to take it to the dealer, you need to be aware of a few things. 1st, if the car is not completely stock, they will void the warranty first, even if it is unrelated. So the car will need to be "stocked" before going to Mitsu.
More important than that however, is that you need to be aware that Dealerships are terrible when it comes to the Evo, and even worse with the SST. They have been reported to try to service it with the wrong transmission fluid, etc. They are very ignorant when it comes to servicing SST cars. Therefor you need to get a copy of the service manual, and educate yourself, so that IF you need to take it to the dealership, have a good idea what needs to be done before you get there.

I am not trying to scare you. Quite the opposite. Learn as much as you can, get the factory service manual, and you will likely enjoy the hell out of your car. It is basically an MR, without the price tag.

If its just a matter of maintenance then im not worried. I do all the work on all my cars, can do anything that needs to be done on my own.

So if the SST failure is mostly just caused by human errors (ppl not changing tranny fluid and other ****) than im not really worried.

Im 20 years old and just dont wanna be dealing with a blown up tranny first few years of owning the car. (****S EXPENSIVE LOL)

Actually, the most common cause of failure is a manufacture defect in the temp sensors. They just look for any excuse to not have to warranty it, and make you pay for it. Hence my previous post.

I just picked up my se just over 2 1/2 weeks, it has now almost 500miles. I love it. my question is what is super sport mode I keep hearing everyone talk about? The only thing I see come is sport and normal when I switch those modes.

you will be ok with 400whp if your tuner knows what he is doing...
make sure you install a good cooler and do regular maintenance, sst fluid+filter....etc
