Is this normal?

Hey all, I own a MY09 Ralliart and was just wondering if the following is normal. I've never driven a semi-manual or manual before so I can't really judge from experience, but another friend who has said it's perfectly normal for manual transmissions.

Basically when I'm in first gear and idling in heavy traffic and I touch the accellerator (a slight push more than feathering it, maybe 5-10% throttle) sometimes it feels like the vehicle "jumps" forward a little bit. It isn't anything dramatic but this never occured in my previous Honda Accord Euro (Acura TSX in US?).

I'm not the most technically minded person so pardon my description, but it feels like the drifeshaft is spinning and it gets "caught" when I begin to accellerate. It doesn't occur if I push the throttle more than 10% or in any other gear.

Thanks in advance

Yes it's normally. Just learn to have a softer foot with a steady pressure; when you push the gas and then let-off the TCU is switching back and forth with clutch pressure (kinda like slipping the clutch vs holding it in).

Yeah, it can be a bit rough sometimes. I find it's particularly bad if I drive off in a cold car, straight into a traffic jam. Until the SST fluid & clutches get warmed up, it can be harsh.

So finding yourself in crawling, stop-start traffic without a prior warm-up sentences you to 10-15 minutes of that jarring 1st-gear clutch engagement!

Thanks for the replies, I can rest a bit easy now.

Ever since I found out my vehicle is no longer under warranty I'm extremely paranoid about the transmission failing.
