Highest HP TC-SST

So how hard have these been pushed. Dyno numbers, please. Not SOTP!

Thanks!

I know Jeremy Rohrs of SSP Texas has his tuned for 540 whp on a Mustang Dyno I believe... that's almost 700 crank HP. He's using their 500 hp clutch kits and we'll be using the same on an Evo X MR that I'm driving for the 2012 One Lap of America event. With a Buschur 2.2L block and 70+ lb/min turbo I think that's about the limits of what you can tune for without people cracking the TCU on the SST transmission.

I have heard of a few higher powered setups on E85 and such but they are likely forced to detune to avoid having their clutchpacks opening up.

Not bad! Any idea how much the stock SST can hold with the original clutches?

It's more based on torque delivery and tuning it so that torque doesn't hit all at once. They seem to reasonably hold a stock turbo at 26 psi or a GT30 sized turbo at 26 psi. If you want E85 and lots of low end torque hitting with higher boost levels, the SST transmission and clutchpacks are not going to like you very much. Keeping everything in check temperature wise should also help longevity.

So for a Stock turbo setup you are making 350 dynojet whp and similar torque where as the GT30 you might make around 425 whp with ~375 torque hitting later but holding longer through the RPM range to get higher peak HP numbers and better top end pull.

I'll have some dyno numbers in about 2-3 weeks that will be about as good as you can get out of an MR setup.

I'm not following you. 350 whp from a stock turbo? I assume this is via a better-than-stock tune or jacked boost, right?

2008 MR, 451whp/356wtq on a "proper" low reading Mustang Dyno, on 91 oct:

Retuned again after upgraded WG springs and MAF (3" to 3.5") and ended up making 465whp/384wtq on 91 oct.

Then retuned on E85 and made 502whp/410wtq with "just" 27.5psi before we maxed out the 500hp SSP clutches.

The SST's are quite capable with proper tuning and parts.

Bryan, did it max out because you logged the clutch slipping or just because of there rating?? Still don't understand how they could be rated in HP when its TQ that makes them slip.

Yes, logged slip and even with current SST tuning they still would slip.

They probably rate them in HP because that is what most people understand.

Hi Guys,

First time posting on here. Very interested in the SST tramsmission and it's capabilities. Just wondered if there's actually anyone/a company working on cracking the TCU on the SST transmission?

Also, are there any stronger clutch plates than the 500bhp rated ones?

Yes, Cobb and Tephra are working on cracking the TCU and yes SSP makes a 600 kit which is 10 clutches over the 8 in the 500 kit and also DODSON has a kit as well.

Yes 350 Dynojet whp / 325 Mustang whp / 425 crank HP is typically about all you can get out of the stock turbo setup, and torque tends to be similar unless you crank the boost to the moon with E85 and fool it from seeing over 28 psi. It's definitely the torque that will cause the clutchpacks to slip so if you control any sudden surge and tune for a flat torque curve it's your best bet for long clutchpack life.

Speaking of boost, who had that MAP clamping device that kept the ECU from seeing more than 28 psi boost and opening the clutchpacks? Forgot if switching to a 4 bar map sensor helped that situation at all, I'll be tuning the One Lap Evo X for 500-550 mustang whp range so will need all tricks. Chances are the Borg Warner S300SX FMW Turbo is going to be at 400 torque from 4500 to 8000 the way I'm going to tune it.
