SST oil leak

I recently discovered that my SST oil cooler was slowly leaking and it had gone on for long enough that some 2l of oil were missing. This has lead to a few questions.
1. The guy at the workshop said that the problem was that the tube which the hose attaches to has rusted and thus whilst he tried his best, there was really no way to stop the leak. He said that it's a fairly common thing with these coolers and that if I bought a used one then odds are it'd have the same problem, so really I need a new one. Is this plausible for a country where road salt is used? If it is, is there any cheaper alternative I could use, such as maybe a DCT cooler off of a completely different car? Depending on where I look, a brand new OEM cooler seems to cost some 500-1000€, which is ludicrous and more than I can afford to spend on this issue given that the reason I found out about the leak to begin with is that I crashed, and other repairs are also needed. With the OEM cooler overheating is nowhere near a concern for me, so I would assume that even if it'll run slightly hotter, that's no big deal. Might even be good if it warms up quicker in the winter.
I was thinking of maybe jerry-rigging something like a 02E409061B in there since it would be an order of magnitude cheaper.
2. The workshop topped up my SST with Motul High Torque DCTF. I understand that the current consensus is that only the OEM fluid should be used, but if it was just topped up with 2l of that, is that okay? Especially given that I don't really stress my SST much?
3. Given that it ran for at least a few months with 2l less oil than it's supposed to, is it probable that this did any damage? FWIW, the oil apparently looked fine, no metal flakes or anything.

1. I would just source a used OEM cooler for the time being, it's pretty easy to access and replace, even down the road if you find a better solution. Maybe treat it with some type of anti-rust coating.
2. If they topped off with Motul and it currently has Diaqueen, I'd image that probably isn't the best idea to have a mix of both. I'd drain and fill with one or the other. Some folks state the Motul works but requires a much shorter change interval.
3. As long as you aren't slipping the clutches and it continues to shift fine, I wouldn't worry about it.
