Suggestions for Turbo

I am ready to upgrade the Turbo over the Winter. I am mainly doing track days and autocrosses. What is the ideal turbo for road racing, and autocrosses. Thanks for any help. It is not my daily driver, but I do drive it on the street on occasion.

The "ideal" turbo for autocross is most likely the stock turbo. Not sure which model year turbo is the right one for your needs, but if you want the faster spooling (which is what you want in autox) then the stock turbo is most likely your best bet.

Not sure about track days. How much lag can you deal with?

Stock is best for what you're doing. Focus on seat time and suspension upgrades.

stock is the best... However its limited to 340~350on pump and abit higher on race and that when you make it very very hot.... I would go with 3071 ot 3076

340whp is not joke on a road course. Any more power you need bigger brakes on the EVO.

I don't know if i agree with stock being the best, RNR supposedly has a 3071 making more power with quicker spool than stock. I don't know though. Unless your dead set on competeing id say you can whoop seriously with just the stocker so i say save money.

lol I know..

Nothing makes better spool than the stock turbo beside the 2871R. everything else is a lie. Stock turbo spools very fast.

A bigger turbo for auto-x is kinda silly. The stock is awesome. For roadcourses an upgraded turbo will just cause you to shift constantly to stay in the powerband. I have 20G on the VI and if you keep shifting you can keep it in the sweetspot.

I personally would recommend to keep the stocker and get more seat time stock.

Power-on oversteer is fun w/ a 20G

Untuned its making 270hp 250lb/ft at 14psi full spool is at 4700rpm

It hits like a freight train and once I get it tuned I should be putting down about 320hp

That is the real question....

I have the same scenario, and like these suggestions here, I stayed stock to keep a 'quick' spool profile.

Also, like the other user, the 2871R is the real 'road-race' turbo for an engine with a redline of 7-7500. I have a buddy with a Talon 2.3(40overw/stroker) with a race build and that thing is just sick. It makes like 350whp with a 'safe' tune, and is at full spool by 25-2800. Granted, he doesn't want to spin the thing to 8grand, so he went that route.

I have another buddy who has an evo with a built bottom and top, which redlines at 9500, and he went with the 3071. He doesn't have to keep shifting, because he can spin the p&ss out of it. Now he makes around 400whp, so it is a scary car. He definitely needed to upgrade the brakes.

So, I guess what I am saying is you can go the big route, but you have to properly prep the engine to hold the rpm, so you can eliminate some shifts. However, if you autocross at all, you wouldn't be happy with anything less than 2871R.

Again, my humble .02.
