Track Evo (Preping for long sessions)
Evo8Speed,
As I understand it, the only advantage the cams provide is the stabilize the loss of 15+hp after 5900 RPM on the stock setup. If you have cams, theortically, you want to twist it to red, because you 'should' still be making power. If you have up'd your boost, you may want to bring it down for the winter months, and stick with moving the shift points out some, however, if your boost is 19+ and it is cold, I would be concerned about your o2 trims. YOu may want to purchase a wideband, if you continue to open track with a 'retuned' ecu. There is no replacement for knowing what your car is running. With my car, I ususally cut boost down to 17psi in the winter, because the fuel injectors (stock) can't keep up at 19psi. If I had an upgraded fuel system, i may up the boost, but on stock, I can't keep the trims below 12.0:1 in cold air with 19+psi. And with 100 octane so sporadic at some tracks, I don't want to take the chance on damaging the engine, so I cut the boost down. Hope this helps.
