Autocross Classing My Evo

Works P2, Eibach lowering springs, Progress rear sway, Kuhmo Victoracer V700s on OEM '03 wheels puts me in SM, yes?

A lower arm bar with only one connection to each side (Cusco or Perrin) does not remove me from SM, yes?

Moving to 17x9 instead of 17x8 would keep me in SM or no??

Thanks all!

The Works P2 definitely puts you in SM. The lower arm bar may or may not be legal in SM -- my personal reading of the rules is that it's probably not legal.

Wheel and tire sizes are unrestricted in SM -- I'm running 18x10 wheels.

definately SM becuase of the works p2.

The lower control arm bar should be legal as long as it has no diagonal bracing. The Cusco type II is not legal, as is the RMR brace.

I read somewhere that as long as the lower bar only had two mounting points it was legal, therefore I believe it is. I'll probably order the Perrin, but that's the answer I was looking for. It's the springs that had me worried. I missed the test & tune and first subsequent autocross event waiting on my springs and sway. Now I'll get rollin' it seems, firmly ensconced in SM - thanks!!!

I assume that you're both thinking that the (for example) Cusco Type I brace is legal under the "strut bar" rules (which would also make it legal in ESP or in STU). That's true as long as it mounts to "suspension mounting points".

I'm not familiar enough with these braces to know if that's how they mount, but if that's how they work, then yes, they would be legal.

From what I can recall, the two stock crossbrace bars in the front don't mount to suspension mounting points, though... They are more properly "subframe connectors" and the rules on those don't permit lateral connections between the frame rails. Of course, the stock bars are legal because, well, they're stock. Legally, I don't think you can remove or replace those.

I take that back. I just looked at the factory service manual and it appears that one of the crossmember bars would in fact be considered a "strut bar" since the two mounting points are arguably close enough to the lower arm mounting points...

But the other crossmember bar attaches with three bolts, so it would not be considered a "strut bar" according to the Solo rules.

If the Cusco Type 1 brace is a bolt-in replacement for the 2-bolt front crossmember bar, then it would almost certainly be legal in SM.

It looks like the Perrin brace attaches at 3 points. I can't find any rule which permits the addition of such a brace in SM.

That's a very good point Jack... Something I missed when I researched this topic earlier this year.

But doesn't it depend on the wording in the Service manual? I guess you could argue that if they are both labeled strut bars (like our factory 3 point strut bar on top) then it could be legal... But even I'll admit that is stretching the definition.

Then I would suggest you stay out of my regional events... We don't tollerate cheaters...

It's a pretty simple concept. If you just running for fun runs, then just run the class where your prepped for, and have fun. Some people might be offended by some cheater taking away valuble points.
Autocrossing isn't much in the way of motorsports, but it can be very competitive. Cheaters just ruin what is otherwise fun sunday drive.
