Evo at Corvette AutoX

We have an active Vette club in NE Florida who sponsors a fun autox. The fastest Vettes run 51 secs (450hp on slicks) the stock Vettes run 55-59 secs. My stock RS runs at 55. This is my third event with them, does this sound right against the Vettes. If you are interested in a fast autox they welcome "Tin" cars.

Th C4 Vette and the Evo are in the same SCCA A stock Solo II class. So the SCCA considers the cars equals. AutoX is mostly about the driver though.

Thanks for the response, I just looked up the scca classes and feel better about the times. From reading other posts I assumed the EVO was supposed to beat them all. The evo can run with the stock C 5s with out a problem. The slicks improve the C4 by 5-8% over the stock C4s.

It also depends heavily on the layout of the course. My local SCCA region has a lot of Miatas, so the courses are generally very tight and technical. Vettes on slicks can't keep up with my car on street tires due to the fact that the turns are too tight for such a big car. A more open, higher speed course might make a big difference for the Vettes. I find that the evo is fairly versatile in that it performs well in high speed autocross courses as well as tight, technical courses.

The Vettes range from 1969-2005 , all styles. My friend has 2000 C5 convertable, the extra weight keeps him 2 seconds behind the other stock cars.

The Z06 is great sounding and cleans up. The first run before turn one we hit 80 mph, with an attempted heel toe down shift to second gear for the rest of the course.

Tell your friend that the C5 coupe and convertible weight exactly the same.

Its has been a great excuse, are you sure? He said the convertible had more internal support.

The C5 was built as a convertible first, the coupe is no lighter. It may be a little less stiff so perhaps he can use that excuse instead.

Not much stiffer, all the coupes have removable targa tops.

Try some slicks and with some skill you could be right with the fastest Vettes. Of course depending on the course layout and discounting any super hotted up vettes(tube frames, full on race prepped, etc). My third time out in my evo at a Corvette club event I was suprised to be behind only a few cars with my stock A046's. It was in a relatively large lot with a decent straight section too. No hubris, I was way behind the corvette with the FTD.

I don't think you mean "slicks." Most groups will not allow slicks at auto-x. But DOT-R tires are OK.
