PR : First RallyCross in VA for 2002
PR : First RallyCross in VA for 2002
The 2002 SCCA RallyCross season opens on Saturday, February 16th, at Oakland Acres in Orange County, VA. For those who have not been before, this course is extremely unique in that it is a long (approximately .75 miles) dirt/mud (no gravel) course cut through tall grass and other cover. For those who have been, there's no need to tell you how exhilarating this stage-like event is.
Registration for this event is: $50 for non-SCCA, $30 for SCCA member with pre-registration; or $55/$35 non-SCCA/SCCA on the
day of the event. As usual, we will be running in the 'A' and 'B'
group format with one stage in the morning and another (the stage reversed) in the afternoon for each group. There is a distinct and important change, however.
In response to several competitor suggestions, we are
acknowledging that not restricting specific car classes to each group is accounting for uneven scores and an essentially unfair event. To level the playing field, your car class WILL dictate what group you are running in. So, for the next event, all 4-wheel-drive and all Rally classes will run in 'A' group, while all 2-wheel-drive classes, except for Rally classes, will run in 'B' group.
To clarify:
'A' group: Stage 1A - 9:00am, Stage 2A - 1:30pm
Classes: SO4, MO4, RU2, RO2, RO4
'B' group: Stage 1B - 11:00am, Stage 2B - 3:30pm
Classes: SU2, SO2, MU2, MO2
There is an option for those who absolutely cannot participate at the sheduled time for their class, but your times will not be scored for the event (contact the registrar for info). As before, one car may be entered twice at the most, but now that car is permitted to be in the same group. To facilitate this, numbering on the car must be properly displayed and changed between each driver's run. Purchasing magnetic numbers (our nice placards or some other source) is highly suggested.
It is also highly suggested that you 'brown bag' your lunch, as
restaurants are few and FAR between.
As for the coming season, while we only have the February date
confirmed at this time, we will be running 4 to 6 events this year (we ran 6 last year). If you wish to be considered for the year-end championship (in-class and overall) you must enter at least 2 of these events. The Oak Ridge / Lovingston event(s) hosted by our neighbors in the Blue Ridge Region will be eligible for this series (more info later).
See you on the 16th

Here is a guy in a modded Subaru 2.5 RS. His name is Otis. He beat me overall, but my fastest single run was right around the same as his, if not faster.
You can tell he has rally tires too. Just look at that dust cloud.
