Track Day at Nelson Ledges, OH

This past Monday I had the opportunity to attend a driver's ed track day at Nelson Ledges co-sponsored by the Audi and Porsche Clubs around the area.

This event was created for novices with little to none track experience to learn and experiment in a laid back, relaxed setting. Instructors were there to teach, instruct, run drills, and co-pilot.

This was my first track day experience and what fun I had. Talk about the ultimate adrenaline rush, I never knew I could drive that fast and aggressive before. Not only was it a great time but very educational as well. I learned how to take the proper lines, entrance and exit speeds, and staying calm, relaxed, and smooth.

The car performed like a champ, I never realized how balanced it was in both power and handling. We had a myriad of cars there from Evos, S4s, Porsches, Wagons, Vettes, even Jettas.

At the beginning of the day I couldn't keep up with a red porsche carrera, he could take much more aggressive lines than me and I was easily passed. By the end of the day I was able to keep up and hang with him the whole time....well until I got a little too confident and spun out when I swung out a little too hard before a turn when I was getting prepared for an apex.

I can't describe the feeling when you get the hang of aggressively running laps, it's like being in a zone completely feeling each turn and knowing exactly how to take a line.

Needless to say I think I'm addicted, what a blast to do in so much of a safer, controlled, evironment than out on the streets.
