Yes we all know that the Evo's in A stock, I was just trying to help some of the novices out there by giving a complete listing of classes.

I didn't come up with DSP, as I stated, I asked the head classing person at SCCA headquarters. Here's what I found out from the web link you posted; under the DSP catch all "All 6-cyl and Turbo sedans under 3.0L and not otherwise classified " Sounds like the Evo fits that, they said it will change to not include 4WD in the future. Is DSP fair?, probably not, but if you have an EVO why not take advantage of it until Fastrack comes out?

SCCA told me ESP will be the proper class.

Sorry if I sounded like a jerk giving too much information for experienced racer. But if you don't believe me you please ask SCCA yourself and post the correct info. - If it conflicts with what I found out I would appreciate knowing it.

Again I was just trying to post helpful info.

I have to say that I have missed that part myself and according to that, you should be correct with the pre-classing of the EVO!

I would love to see it in the ESP!! My other guess is still on the BSP, tough...

C'mon, no need to apologies here. If anything I should apologize for making you to apologies...

DSP just didn't seem to be the right place for the EVO to be and that is why I asked about that. But, I think things should be in the right place and we can go now and have that

Sorry Fedja,

Great job at the Nat'championship beating the famous Cobb WRX. Still looks like the e36 M3s are the car to beat? They were strong at the SD tour, I've also noticed e46 M3 being prepped on the west coast - hopefully Tunnel will stay in AS.

Doug Gill said the EVO will be in ESP in the next Fastrack. Good class for it but Dave Sbotz's Cobra is a monster.

Those e36 M3's are very well prepared, and very fast. I get to watch them at every regional event.

If the EVO lands in ESP, I think it would be great compitition on national level. The key question to answer is what kind of performance can be achived with SP rules.

As a good comparsion, Steve Equina's nat champ. winning (DSQed )ESP Z28 races locally here. It's not unbeatable. When I mod the EVO for ESP, I'll let you know how it does. Dyno testing at the big intake company this week- prelim HP results are very positve. With all allowalbe mods 300 crank hp should be posible.

is that with or without his illegal lower control arms?

I know that vishnu has had promising results with the XEDE tuner module. but that piggyback system allows for boost control, so how legal it is in SP remains to be seen. There are other options, like a unichip or S-AFC, but those technologies are somewhat dated compared to the modern OBD-II ECU.

The question is how flexible is the programming in the stock ECU to handle a full turboback, intake and intercooler mods?

Wow Fedja, when you first said the Evo fit the CSP catch-all phrase, I thought you weren't reading it right, and was sure forced induction would have fit in a higher category. Then I went to look at the rules again, and sure enough it only fits CSP (they did change DSP to exclude AWD now), which ironically is also the catch-all category for the NON-TURBO LANCER , although I have already emailed Doug with the information stating a case to get it classed in FSP where it belongs.

CSP seems to be the class for lightweight vehicles (CRX, Miata, etc.), so neither the Evo or the Lancer are very appropriate, but SCCA is obviously recognizing that by classing the cars appropriately.

And by the way, if you haven't noticed yet (although you probably have), the Evo8 is now official in the ESP class.

Brian,
Thanks for the cool web pics, I just saw them this week. The Evo should be competitive in ESP. You should checkout the SCCA forums, street prepared. A lot of the ESP guys want the EVO bumped up. I think if a newer improved car is faster, that's the way it should be, I've had to race aganist the Zo6 the last 2 seasons.

I agree, the Lancer shouldn't be in CSP with the miata's - that would be tough.

Hi Fedja, did you get your double konis from True Choice or Pro Parts West? Do you think the spring rates and valving would be in the ballpark for an EVO? Did you read the SCCA forums on the EVO in ESP. You were used as an example in a thread I read. Some of the old guard wants turbos and 4WD out.

Rick
