ACD noises during autox?

I just ran my bone stock 05 RS at a local autocross this past weekend and I kept hearing some strange noises coming from what I believe to be the drivetrain, usually during braking/turn in. This was only the second event I've run the car and I'm pretty sure I heard similar noises the first time.

It sounded like a mechanical clicking, but that the parts had some mass to them. The car drove and still drives great, with no other symptoms other than these strange noises. I wasn't shifting or applying the clutch, but I still feel it was coming from the drivetrain.

At this point I'm writing it off to the ACD doing it's job as the noises are consistent with when the diff should be working. The system's fluid level appears fine. Again, I'm assuming this is normal operation, but a search didn't bring up any mention of other people hearing strange noises.

BTW, these cars are entirely too fast out of the box.

Thanks,

Brian

I hear mechanical sounds too that don't sound right. In my case, I hear it right when I get on the gas mid corner and the inside rear is off the ground. My guess is that it is the rear LSD having a hard time transfering all of the rear torque to the outside wheel while the inside wheel is off the ground. I actually broke the inside rear loose one time.

BTW, my EVO is also stock, but I run V710 tires.

I've autocrossed many cars with LSD's, and I've never known them to make any noise. I think you might be hearing the ACD transferring power to the front since you have a lifted rear wheel.

My RS doesn't have ABS, so I might be lightly locking an unloaded inside rear during braking. Maybe the noises I'm hearing is the ACD trying to compensate for that? Oh well, at least someone else hears stuff too.
