18 X 10 Wheel Choices ?

Time to find some wheels for the '05 Evo.

CCW makes a 18 X 10 for our cars but I need to know what other choices there are. I had SSR Comp's on the previous car but they are sort of out of business.

What 18 X 10's are you using and/or what do you recommend?

They will be used for autocross.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm pretty sure AMS runs an 18x10 wheel? They might be able to help you out...

We put CCWs on the AMS car, though i think there are some 5zigens out there as well from what I understand.

The CCW is light i know, and strong, but $$.. not sure what the 5zigen stats are, though I think Daddio had them on his car at nationals.

I posted here because this is where autocrossers and racers really know what works and what doesn't.

Got a link to a 5zigen site? I am not familiar with them.

Thanks

Have you looked at the Volks? I know they do some wheels in 18 x 10, like the SF Winnning and most of the other Fine Forged line. You can also get the TE37 in 18 x 9.5 and I bet you can special order the 10 or 10.5.

I would get the lightest wheel you can afford, because 18 x 10s are going to be heavy.

get some 17's X 10 , they would be your lightest wheels (TE37's)

I know that when we were doing research for 18x10s back in March, there were places that made the 18x9.5 and would make an 18x10, but the offsets were wrong.
One company engineer told me flat out I was crazy, no one would ever run a wheel that big on an Evo, it wouldn't handle, I would hate it, it would break.. etc and that he flat wouldn't build one for me cause he thought it was dangerous and crazy.

The 18x10s will work, I recommend longer studs of course, you have to get the offset right, and you are probably going to need a widebody kit, or some example thereof to not rub. the 285/35/18 Bridgestone Potenza RE050a stuck out about an inch before we did some .. er... massaging with some metal pipes.

btw..

Or you can run stiff enough springs to prevent the fenders from actually contacting the tires.

Jim, remember, mustang wheels fir our cars. SO if you can get the offest right. You can look at those suppliers.

Honestly though, the CCW's are a known quantity and I would probably just run those.

I don't think the price on CCWs is that bad. Certainly they are not "budget" wheels, but if I recall correctly, I paid around $1900 for my set of 18x10s, including shipping. You could spend more money on much smaller wheels.

I did massage the fenders in order to fit the 18x10-285R30/18 combo, and installed extended wheel studs on the front hubs. (And I run big fat 13mm spacers in front as well.)

I'm also pretty happy with my 5Zigen FN01R-C wheels in 17x9 size, which will probably be used for rain tires next year. (I ran fairly successfully on the 17x9-245R40/17 Hoosier combo in 2004.)

If 5Zigen makes an 18x10 which actually fits the Evo, I haven't heard about it. (Not saying it's impossible, but as somebody who has researched and bought 5Zigen wheels in the past, I'm somewhat familiar with their offerings...)

10k wasn't even close to stiff enough to stop it from happening.. I am not convinced that 12k or even 14k would do it.. if its an autocross only car and on R compounds, then 16-18k would probably work, but on street tires, I dont know if this would be a bit too much, and if you are driving it as a daily driver with those rates, then you are going to hate life.

As far as $ goes, I dont think they are that bad, my statement was preemptive because whenever I said "CCW" to people they reacted that way.. Certainly for what we put them through, what they did, weight and being able to have exactly what we wanted, I thought they were worth it.

Looks like you are correct, I had been told that they had a 18x10, but looks like the widest they offer is an 18x9.5 Looks like we (AMS) will be sticking with the CCWs then, being that we are probably going to go up in tire width.

He had Enkei wheels, don't know what size though.

I believe the top finishing ESP car had 5zigen 18x9.5s

CCW's are heavy, super strong, but heavy. Daddio's car was on Enkei's up front and 5zigen's in the rear. The same manufacturer could not give him the offsets he wanted. If my memory serves me correctly, he had 18x10's up front and 17x9 or 9.5's in the rear. The tires were the same diameter.

Looks like it's time to give John at CCW a call.

I was just curious if there were others available. I ran CCW's on a plastic American car and they look good and were very strong, no problems.

I already have a body man lined up to "massage" the rear fenders for 18X10's.

The reason I want to go with 18's instead of 17's is the availability of the 285/30/18 R compounds.

Thanks for the help guys.........................

Jim

Ask John @ CCW about his 1 Piece Corrsair. He can make them in 18X10 or a couple of other designs he has. I want to see what a fully anodized Cossair looks like on an evo Im betting it would be sick.
