SCCA AutoX Question
Ok, so Im 17 (I turn 18 in may) and I am signing up for some autocrosses in April. I heard from someone that they might not let me race my car because it is too powerful for a minor. Does anyone know if this is true or not?
You may have some kind of rule that won't allow you to run at the local level, but there is not an SCCA rule that I am aware of that relates your age to the amount of hp of the car that you are running.
I have never heard of such a rule, but I do know that your parent has to sign a waiver in person, so make sure you contact the event Safety Steward very soon to get that squared away. Oh, and best of luck on your first autocross!!!

yeah urbanknight is correct.... under a certain age and you need a guardian's signature. to answer nnorris7413, u do not need an annual tech inspection. every track activity, either it is autox, roadcourse or dragging requires an on-site tech inspection. some venues provide a tech inspection before-hand to save time but does not exclude you completely

Here are the eligibility rules for the Indy region:
ELIGIBILITY:
You must be a current SCCA member of any region and fall into one of the 3 following categories.
1. You must have competed in four (4) verifiable SCCA Solo II events in the current or previousyear.
2. All Indy Region Solo Committee members and any solo chiefs in the region are eligible.
These members spend a large part of their morning preparing equipment and helping other members for the day and will be granted annual tech inspection regardless of how many events they ran the season before. The only other members/cars that will be eligible for annual tech are people directly approved by the solo committee, and solo chairperson. They may include registration, set-up and tech workers.
3. Any member presenting a road race car with a current logbook with annual tech completed.
Yes, you're only allowed to have an annual tech under certain provisions, which include veteran status and SCCA membership. I wouldn't worry about passing tech the day of. If your car doesn't pass tech in an autocross, it should be public roads either. But just to let you knwo what they look for:
- Wheel lugs torqued and not loose
- Noticeable tread depth in the tires, no chords showing.
- Battery secure
- Adequate seatbelt(s) installed
- Brake pedal does not lose pressure
- Nothing loose in the cabin
- Current helmet in good shape (Snell M95/SA95 or later right now)

nnoris, which event are you driving out to? I can answer most questions pertaining SCCA Chicago, TSSCC, SBR SCCA, and Madison Autocross events. Let me know of any questions you have cause I've been doing autocrosses around here for the past couple of years now.
Before you even answer, let me tell you that you're making a great decision, and your parents should be commended as well. It's not easy for parents to understand what autocrossing really is and what it does for you as a driver, off and on the track.

Stomp some *** nnoris. I seriously doubt anybody at an autocross would stop you from racing. Just cart the old man out there to sign the waiver and you'll be good to go.
Here in Dallas we have a couple of 8 year olds that run kart's at our events! No way in hell that is any safer than your driving an EVO. At least you have some metal skin bewteen your *** and the asphalt.
