Just wondering...
How come i never see any EVOS or pretty much any kind of mitsubishi in road racing? I see very few road racing mitsu's in general running, any idea why they're not really a popular car to race?
Same here. I haven't been to an SCCA or NASA event with less than 5 Evos in the past year. I've had as many as 8 Evos just with me who were all friends at Summit Point and at autocrosses - just not that many every time.
well do you mean like real grassroots road racing, something like that? I know in T2 there is a nice Evo, I think he is a member here. For touring cars and what not, I dont know of any evo's - but then again im am no expert.
I mean in road racing at the grassroots level (scca or nasa)and even up into the higher ranks (grand-am, speed world challenge, etc...) I've been to many scca regional races and only have seen 1...so i dont know. Oh and by the way i go to them at Lime Rock Park.
Probably just your area.
DC Evo's at Summit Point

take into account how many accidents, etc have gone on, the number of cars isn't huge.
Probably just your locale, as many evo owners frequent the 1/4 much more often than the road course.

There are not that many Evos road racing because they are turbocharged, and most racing organizations have an aversion to turbos. In SCCA you can run the Evo in ONE road race class, T2, which allows for very minimal modification to the car, in fact no suspension modifications to my understanding. You can actually also run in ITE, which is "run what ya brung", but it is NOT a national class, only a regional class. NASA is upping the opportunities for Evo road racers with the institution of its new pro touring classes, with modification points that correspond to the concurrent time trial classes. This will be the best opportunity for Evo racers to race modified and highly prepared Evos against comparable cars in class in a race series that has a national championship ladder. Of course if your pockets are very very deep, one could prepare and race an Evo in Speed World Challenge GT. I for one would love to see someone do this. If the Volvos can be competitive, similarly prepared Evos could be competitive. There are MANY more Sti's road racing. My take on this is that the car is more likely to draw a more mature owner, with little deeper pockets, and less of a boy racer bling on the streets, brag about my dyno numbers type. Also, Subaru has been generous with factory technical support; hence, 3 STI's in the top 10 in T2 at last year's run-offs.

He got beat by Tarzan Yamada in his 800 hp Skyline GT-R last Sunday on the infield road course of Calif. Speedway in a non-sanctioned Time Attack event run by a SoCal HPDE group. Not a particularly fair fight, based on driver experience or car capability, but Kent still posted excellent times and placed second in the AWD Unlimited class.

He was incredibly successful in his rookie racing season last year, winning 12 races in a row in the NorCal ITE class of SCCA, walking away with the championship. You will see Kent become an even more competitive driver this year, and I assume some improvements will be made to the car as well.
