You MUST change your plugs very often if you track your EVO a lot. A spark plug failure can be catastrophic. Ask me, I know from personal experience. If you run "hot" plugs (7s) change them after EVERY track day, or 2 days at the absolute most. If you run cooler plugs (8s or 9s), change them every 3rd track day at the most.

This is very important advice that can save you from having to replace your engine.

Even with a mild tune and your normal tbe/cams mods? Seems a little extreme to me.

What are the plugs and where do you buy them?

Also... does a "hot 7" give you more fire? whats the advantage?

Thanks !

Copper br8es's get changed every oil change in my car. I would recommend the same until you get your car to a stable state of tune and then run an iridium br8eix. I change those out about every 8-10k miles.

Hey Kyle,

BPR8EIX changed after every 2-4 oil changes. I would run cooler plugs, 7 heat range is stock. Higher the number cooler they are.

The iridium plugs that come in the car are really good and expensive. You need to change them often if you switch to copper plugs which are el-cheap-o.

I order in the plugs from Checker/Shucks Auto Supply - They are cheap that way. You can also get the BPR7ES's from a motorcycle shop. But they are more money there because of the Honda Logos etc...

When people talk about hot or cold they are talking about the general temperature of the plug (how hot it gets). So a colder plug doesn't reach the same temps in the combustion chamber. This helps prevent knock and pre-ignition from plugs that get so hot they can start combustion without actually firing.

What happens when a plug fails? Seems like a dead plug would just refuse to fire. How does that destroy your engine?

TIA

O'Reilly's will order the br8eix plug for about $25 a set. I recommend the non protruding br instead of the protruding tip bpr but that's just my ocd and paranoia kicking in right there

Is that what the "P" stands for. Sweet I learned something today. So does that change the effective location of the electrode?
