Swapping race pads for track days?

Hi Guyz,

I just ordered some Carbotech XP-8's for the front pads and have a few questions about putting them on. Do I need to use those stock metal shims(?) and apply high temperature brake greases when I put the carbotech pads on? I am asking, because the representative at Carbotech said that neither are necessary. Just wanna make sure I do it the right way first time.

Thank you in advance.

Hi again,

It is not necessary but it will keep the noise down by quite a bit. Again as mentioned let me know if you want some help putting them in

No need for shims and anti-squeel for track pads.

I've installed race pads w and w/o high temp "grease". When I use it, it just catches fire anyways, so I stopped. No problems, but very noisy.

You haven't seen loud till you've tried XP12's on the street.

XP12s, 2-piece rotors, no grease, on the way to a track day. Wife: "what in the heck did you do to the car now?!?" My brakes squeel my clutch rattles and chirps(Tilton)-she thinks the car is always about to break. I can't help it though-I'm addicted to fast

I think shims are a good idea at the track - they reduce the heat transfer from the pad through the pistons and into the fluid.

I've used titanium shims on the track all year (as well as Mitsu air guides)-if they help with heat transfer it isn't much. I think brake ducts are in my future.

One more question for you guyz. Will I run into problems if I run the carbotechs on the front with stock rear pads? Too much brake bias???

You won't damage anything but since brake bias is directly related to pad friction coefficient you will be under-utilizing the rear tires.
