track class

I am copying a message from a race digest. Lets hope we have good things written about us some day. The cobra driver has just passed away in a plane accident.

Sometime back in the early 90s CSRG held a couple of vintage events in the
parking lot of the Reno Hilton.
I had arrived Friday afternoon and set up my canopy and got things squared away.
It was a hot calm evening and about 4pm I went up to my room in the Hilton,
which was included in the entry fee, and took a shower and got cleaned up and
ready for the evenings get together.
About 5pm I wandered back down to the paddock and saw that my canopy had been
taken down. The blue tarp was neatly folded up and sitting next to my car. As I
stood there wondering why, a guy from a few spaces down the line came up and
asked if this was my paddock space? Yes I answered. He then told me that he had
watched as sudden gusts of wind had kicked up and that one corner of my canopy,
including the 3 wide tie down strap and the wheel and tire it was tied to, had
been flipped up and deposited on the red 427 Cobra in the next space! And almost
as quickly as it had kicked up, the wind stopped. He had removed the wheel and
tire from the Cobra and took down my canopy. In a bit of shock I looked at the
Cobra and could see where the hardware on the tie down strap had put some
scratches on the cowl of the Cobra. And there were a few thumb sized dents on
the rear deck. And whoever owned the Cobra was nowhere in sight.
The next morning when the Cobra owner showed up I gathered my courage and
embarrassment and introduced my self and began explaining what had happened.
Just about then the fellow who had seen it all happen joined us and confirmed
what I was saying. We all three looked at the Cobra and its wounds and even saw
a couple more scratches I had not seen the evening before. The owner of the
Cobra looked at the car then looked at me and said, Ive done a lot worse to
it. Dont worry about it and dont let it spoil your weekend and shook my hand.
The Cobra owner was Dick Smith

and then there's no class

Like this weekend at Mid-Ohio. I was down by registration and when I got back to the paddock I found my gear scattered, a couple things run over, and most everything covered in oil. Some hillbilly in a Camaro was late getting to grid and ran right through my gear. I know he had a buddy with him, but he couldn't be bothered to even collect my stuff and leave a note. I found him later and he took care of things. He also didn't do a good job of car prep, he broke down during the first session and was done for the weekend. There are bozos out there.
