Question Question on one-piece rotors

I've been running a set of Rotorpro rotors on my Evo for the past two years. The front rotors are finally starting to go and I need to get a replacement set. The Rotorpros have taken about 15000 miles and 4 HPDE track days. Needless to say, I've been very happy with the rotors, since they've held up as well, if not better than, the stock rotors.

I only have one concern about the replacement set. I can get them either powder coated black or zinc coated. I know the powder coat will mostly burn off during the first session or two - it's what happened to the original set. But what about zinc coating? Is this a good idea? Will it hold up?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

the coating is only for the hat part of the rotor.. keeps it from showing rust.. but who cares.. plus it costs extra..

just go by a $5 can of hi-temp black paint and do the hats yourself.

Ludikraut... why not go for a 2pc instead? They're not THAT much more expensive than a good 1pc and I can give you the name of a guy who can give you some rocking prices!

This is what I use:

To answer your question, yes the zinc plating is a good idea if you want to get rid of the rust. My rotors have gone through 4 DEs and 15K miles and the hats are still shinin'. I'd personally like black, but the zinc color matches the rotor surface... so it's not like they're yellow or red.

I'm using the Performance Friction 2 piece rotors up front and stoptechs in the back, work great so far. Although I only have two track days on them this year.

mmm, buy me some pads.

slotted are junk, unless you like a good clean pad face.... and the excessive wear that goes along with them

2pc = $$$

1 pair of Rotorpro front rotors = $160 (black) or $190 (zinc coated) to my door.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll give the zinc coated pair a shot. The paint ends up burning off and gunks up the wheel-well...

what makes you say "they're starting to go?" Have you caliper'd the face to ensure it's getting close to the service limit?

I've run 15-20 days (rough guess) on the pf 2 pieces, i mean, they just take whatever you throw at them. I highly recommend them. Gruppe-s was running a heck of a deal on them too.

The front rotors have already been turned once, after they started to warp last year, and now they are starting to warp again. Time for a new set.

I guar-an-dang-tee, you didn't warp crap.

you had pad buildup. turning them eliminates the excess pad, and you think they're new again.

I'm aware of the pad buildup issues on Evos, but when I can't get rid of the buildup by re-bedding the pads, then IMO they're warped and need to go.

but they're not warped.

sure, turning them off will clean them off, but theres underlying issues that will happen again and again. Stock pads seem excessively bad for uneven pad transfer.

Driving style is another.

That being said, you'll get in my car after a track day and say "damn, brakes are pulsing". Yet, get it 1/2 mile down the road, and they're fine.

It's user error.
