2nd time asking - SHould i keep the s4 or get the evo for HPDE

I was asking about getting rid of my 2001 s4 and purchasing an evo several months back. I tried to sell the s4 but no decent bites. It is a sunroof delete without heated seats. This is not a daily driver and i can afford to lose interior weight. My plans were a few HPDE during the year and then considering doing Cannonball one lap and/or Newfoundland Targa.

I cant even get 13K for my s4 and dont want to give it away. I have all the parts to get it to close to 400awhp. I went with stasis/ohlins suspension. With all this and lighter weight can i "compete" with a well sorted evo. IN other words will i be frustrated getting lapped by an evo with basic bolt ons while i spent 15k in mods for my s4.

Should i continue trying to sell the s4?

Keep the S4 and drive the 996TT or S2000 you claim to own.........both of those would be much better suited for the track than the S4.

The S4 is a nice sport sedan.....that with enough money can be made into a decent HPDE car. The EVO can be modded for less than the S4 and will be faster with less $, but if your willing to loose some of the creature comforts on the Audi it coud be a nice track car (gut it, Ohlins, twin KO4s)

I take it you have never driven at a HPDE before????? If that is the case you just need to get out there and drive anything you can because seat time is the best thing for you right now. S4 or EVO, a well prepped Miata will kill you with an experianced driver.

^^^^ what he said. The S4's are well built but not as well as an Evo. However They will have more torque on corner exits while the evo fights for spool. I personally had a 00 gti that i had spent a few dollars on suspension/engine wise aiming for HPDE's as well, starting attending getting my skills up, was happy but not quite happy because i was getting passed even though my skills were dead on the car simply wouldn't go any faster. Then she got sandwiched while sitting still in traffic thus totaling it....and as a result the evo was a ....forced upgrade Couldn't be happier now....however the debt wasn't part of the master plan

there is a boat load of audi's in my area so I would say driving an evo is more original but thats my only take either one will do well.

Neither.

If you're going to HPDE regularly, get something lightweight and cheap to run.

EG Civics come to mind, and of course the #1 choice would be a Miata.

OUch!, Ive done many weekend events(for the past 10 years), i have also attended a skip barber course! I am fortunatate to have studied hard and managed to buy some cars i was eyeing all through college and professional school.
With that being said, i am looking for an awd racer to try out some targa,ie newfoundland. I think i am stuck keeping the s4, the loss would be too big and we'll have to see if a gutted, high horspower s4 can compete with the big boy evos.

I saw your thread when you initially posted it, but didnt respond. If youve been doing HPDE's for the past 10 years then you should know by now that pretty much anything can compete, you just have to know what youre doing and be ready/willing to spend money. Although, this also depends on what type of competition youre considering. If youre mainly focusing on HPDE's, then it really doesnt matter because its a HPDE. If youre looking for some sort of specific level of competition then look into NASA, SCCA, and the like. However, if youve been doing this for over ten years you probably know all this, so im really not sure what it is youre asking here.
