Racing Requirements and Regulations?

Hi I really am interested in going down to the track an eventually getting to a comp level. But before doing so what are some requirements I might need as far as vehicle and personal wise? Remember Im a complete newb thanks for input.

main 'racing' requirement is a cage.

if you dont go that far, youre not going to be 'racing'.

different time trials have different requirements.

helmet, roll bar & neck protection would be a good start.... then move on to fire protection.

I would start here for a basic primer:

Getting Ready for Your First High-Performance Driving School

What you need to know about High-Performance Driving Schools

For someone in your situation (i.e., very fast car, relatively inexperienced driver), the safest environment in which to learn the most stuff in the least amount of time is at a high-performance driving school of some sort.

First learn the basics of high-speed car control, then worry about racing. Walk before you run, yadda, yadda.
