Rear brake pads worn before the fronts?

Is that normal?
My RS (no ABS) has 20k with mostly commute and some autocross miles.
Now the driver rear inside pads are gone (didnt check the passenger side)?

After reading the Autox STU thread... I'm thinking to replace the rears with OEM
pads again... what do you guys think?
(There's another Race pad thread but I'm thinking my car are mostly used for
commuting...)

How much do OEM pads go for?

Thanks,

I believe the front pads handle 70% of the braking; so that is unusual!

OEM pads are pretty expensive I believe. Upgrade and go with something like Performance Friction Z Pads, Hawk HPS, Ferrodo DS2500 - all work well for a daily driven car. I'd recommend you replace both sides at once.

Actually on a primarily street and light auto-x driven EVO that isn't unusual. It happened to my friend's EVO but after he started doing track days forget about it! Fronts wore MUCH quicker ...

You are better off getting some other pads for the rears, eg: Hawk, Ferodo, Carbotech ... OEMs just cost too much.

For some reason, my rear stock pads wore down pretty fast.

But now, my rear pads last through about every 3-4 front sets.

Ya.. just checked oem pads.. they do cost way too much.

As far as aftermarket... Ferodo DS2500's or Hawk HPS?
How about Axxis Ultimates (I used them for my BMW before)...

Is it ok if I mix them with my front oem pads?

Thanks guys!

For some reason, the Hawk HPS front pads suck on my evo. They've never really stopped that great for me. I had the same pads on my Civic and they felt way better.

But for a rear pad street pad, I think pretty much any decent pad will do. The fronts do the majority of the braking anyway.

You really need to search for this. It's been covered a lot, check the Evo Tires/Suspension forum for answers. I know I've commented in about 10 threads personally.

i had the hawk hps and just swapped to ferodo 2500

theyre about $100 more, but they make 0 noise... period about 1000 miles on them and im very very happy with them

the hps did well, performance was definetly there, but they would get a little squeally once warmed up which bugged the hell out of me.

Cheers!

My rears have gone before my fronts every time so far regardless of the pads.
